How To Get Your House Ready For A Baby

Congratulations! You have a baby on the way. Regardless of whether you’re a first-time parent with no clue what to do or a veteran parent with a couple of young ones already, this article is for you.

When parents receive the news that they’re expecting a baby, one of the first things that cross their minds is if they are ready for the arrival of the newest member of their family. Ideally, you will have seven to nine months to make sure that you are physically, financially, and mentally ready to take on the task of caring for a baby. However, another aspect of your life that you need to ready is your house.

Your house is where your baby would live for a long time. Unbeknownst to you, without making necessary preparations, our house is actually filled with multiple perils that could prove to be dangerous for the health of your children.

Small nuances such as tabletop corners, open stairs and unbarred windows may seem harmless and completely normal but in reality, these are things that could potentially hurt your child.

With all of these in mind, here are some of the best steps you could take to ensure that your house is totally baby-ready.

How To Get Your House Ready For A Baby

Cover Sharp Corners

One of the first things you should do is cover all sharp corners. Tables, Chairs, Countertops, doorknobs, etc. All of these pose a serious threat to your child. When your newborn starts walking, you’ll realize why. They will crawl, run, and fumble everywhere they can go. Unfortunately, this means that they would bump into corners often. While bumps, bruises, and scrapes are a normal part of childhood, you have the choice to reduce the damage dealt. You can choose to buy baby-proofing materials or DIY them with tape and any soft material like foam or cotton.

Declutter

Declutter your entire house months before the baby even comes. One event that you do not want happening is for your baby to crawl around your house with hundreds of unnecessary items. Taking care of a child requires a lot of space. You would need a nursery, a play area, etc. Parents would need every corner free of clutter. The sheer number of baby toys and clothes that your kid will need and outgrow in a few weeks is astounding.

Don’t let your comfort suffer by decluttering early. Make a list of all the items inside your house that you don’t need. You can choose to give them away, sell them, throw them, or do the most sensible thing: rent a storage facility. Storage facilities are a convenient storage solution that provides household owners with a remote space where they can store their belongings. This is especially important for residents who have limited space. For example, residents swear that renting a storage facility in London have made their lives easier.

If you plan to have more kids in the future, you can use the storage unit to store the stuff that your first baby used. This way, you don’t have to buy a new set of items.

Remove Your Carpet Floors

While stylish and has a unique appeal to residents of the house, carpet floors and babies unfortunately just do not mix. First and foremost, carpet floors are unsanitary. Even if you have them cleaned once a week, it can still house plenty of germs and bacteria that can enter into your child’s body and compromise their immune system.

Carpet floors also house plenty of dust, pollen, and other allergens that can trigger your child’s asthma or worsen their allergic rhinitis. Don’t even get me started on spills. Children are messy eaters. It cannot be helped that they cause spills. Wiping baby food or milk off of floor tiles is easy-peasy lemon squeezy. However, the same cannot be said with carpet floors and spilt baby food. You would need to scrub away at your carpet floor or call the professionals. It just isn’t worth the hassle. Maybe when they grow up, you can have carpet floors installed again.

Prepare Recreational Activities For Your Kid

Your kid will have plenty of energy growing up. Make sure that you and your spouse are ready with recreational activities for them. Equip yourself with loads of toys and books. Carefully choose what toys you will give your children though. There should be no detachable small parts that may be swallowed and that they are all safe for kids. For books, go for educational books that have valuable lessons inside.

Of course, don’t forget the TV! What kind of childhood would you give your kid if you don’t allow them some fun time with the television? The right TV shows can stimulate your kid’s brain and also distract them while you do house chores. Prepare yourself by buying a high-quality TV and paying for aerial installation services. This way, you are assured that your kid can spend his/her free time occupied instead of wasting away bored.

Buy Slip-Proof Bathroom Mats

The bathroom is one of the most dangerous places for a child. It goes without saying that children should not be left inside the bathroom unsupervised. Bath time is also quite a messy ordeal. Prevent any accidents from happening by installing slip-proof bathroom mats. Bathroom mats will ensure that nothing unfortunate occurs.
