April Date At Ek En Djy Vissery
My husband and I go on a monthly date and at the end of April we went to Ek En Djy Vissery in Velddrif. It’s at Bokkomlaan, which is now one of my favourite places to go. We sat on the jetty over the Berg River and it was lovely, so relaxing and peaceful. The food was superb and we will definitely be going back there again. Read my Ek En Djy review for more information.
44th Birthday, School Holidays And Family Visits
April is always a busy month with school holidays and family birthdays. It was my birthday on the 2nd April, followed by both my sisters birthdays.
A huge thank you to Hada Labo for the lovely birthday gift they sent me, as well as for sponsoring a hamper for one of my live video viewers on on my birthday.
My husband gave me a voucher for the Shelley Point Hotel Spa. I had a massage and I had my brows and lashes tinted, it was such a treat. Read my review on Shelley Point Hotel Spa.

My kids and I went to Cape Town to visit my sister at the beginning of April and we celebrated my 44th birthday by going to Camel Rock for a silent event by Colorfields. It was the first silent event I’ve been to and it was loads of fun. The band played live and we had our headphones on. What was really lovely about this was that my daughter is incredibly sensitive to loud noises, so when there is a live band she struggles. Having our own headphones meant we could all listen as loud or soft as we liked, or you can just take your headphones off. It was perfect for her and she loved it.

The next morning there was a market at Camel Rock so we headed there again. It was a lovely market, Camel Rock is clearly the hub of Scarborough with something always happening.
The following weekend (Easter weekend) my kids and I took a trip to visit my parents at their farm in Swellendam. It was the first time in a long time I got to really rest. I spent the time catching up with my parents, reading, and watching Netflix.
Things At Home Are Easier
This year has been super hard. A close family member has Parkinson’s and Parkinson’s Dementia. Coping has been close to impossible and it has been such a heartsore experience. The great news is that with a change in doctor and a change in meds there has been such a huge improvement. Better than we could ever have hoped for. We are so grateful and positive. Yes things will get hard again, but we have a chance now to get our strength back and plan for the difficulties that lie ahead.
My heart goes out to everyone that has a family member with dementia, from what we’ve experienced so far it is devastating.

Getting Sick
After getting back from my parents I got the flu and it was awful. I was sick for 11 days. I suspect that because things were so stressful for so long when everything finally calmed down and I got a chance to rest my body gave in.
The good news is that I did some amazing collaborations in April with Reuterina, Echinaforce, and Baby’s Own cough syrup. I got to sample all the products and put them to good use.
Baby’s Own is an alcohol free cough syrup, yes geared towards kids, but since I am an alcoholic and addict in recovery it was perfect for me too.
Echinaforce really helped me recover. I was sick for over a week before I started taking it as a treatment and the day after I started taking it I felt for the first time that I was starting to recover.
Swagbucks And Ysense
I’m still loving my side income from Ysense, but due to all the loadshedding and being so busy I have not been able to focus on it much the last few months. I’m now averaging closer to $50 per month when I was earning over $100 a month for a long time. Hopefully soon I will be able to focus on it a bit more moving forward since things are getting easier. If you want to earn through completing surveys and offers, and playing games check out my Ysense review.

I’ve also started with Swagbucks and I am really enjoying it, it is very similar to Ysense. I actually joined Swagbucks many years ago but there were not many earning opportunities since I am in South Africa, but there are now plenty of ways to earn with Swagbucks including surveys, offers, and games. However, I’ve not been successful yet figuring out how to earn through the games, I’ve only been focused on the surveys. I’ve cashed out with Swagbucks so it is legit and I will write a detailed review on Swagbucks once I’m more familiar with it.

I am so glad for joining the Kaboutjie Parenting Community. I enjoy reading all your reviews and I can fully relate to your tips/advice with my 2 girls. It just makes me feel so much better knowing that I am not alone and that there are so many mommies/parents dealing with the exact same things I’m dealing with and getting those tips just makes my life easier. You are truly an inspiration.
