When Nature’s Nutrition brought out their Raw Chocolate flavour of superfoods powder last year I was so keen to try it out. So far I have loved every single product in their range and who doesn’t like chocolate right?
And the Nature’s Nutrition Raw Chocolate has not disappointed us. It is the favourite flavour of both my kids and a regular choice for our morning smoothie recipes.

5 Incredible Benefits of Raw Cacao
It is so important to differentiate between cacao and cocoa or chocolate. Cacao refers to the unprocessed version of cacao beans while cocoa powder is the chemically processed and roasted version of cacao. When cacao is processed into cocoa it loses most of its antioxidants and flavanols.
There are many benefits of consuming raw cacao including:
- Raw Cacao has over 40 times the amount of antioxidants as blueberries and blueberries which contain the highest levels of antioxidants in foods that are commonly consumed.
- Raw Cacao is the highest source of iron when it comes to plant based foods – remember that in order to absorb iron properly you need to take it with Vitamin C. Take note that this superfood powder has 300mg Vitamin C per serving so this is taken care of.
- Raw Cacao is one of the highest plant based sources of magnesium which is essential for a healthy heart and and brain.
- Raw Cacao is high in Calcium – more than you will find in cow’s milk.
- Raw Cacao is a fantastic source of serotonin, tyrosine, phenylethylamine and tryptophan – these combine to naturally boost your moods and alleviate depression.
So as you can see this flavour is just packed with goodness and amazing health benefits! Since this flavour came out after we received our amazing smoothie recipe book from Nature’s Nutrition we had to come up with some fun smoothies for this flavour.
Below are our two favourite recipes that my daughter and I came up with.

Raw Chocolate, Sweet Potato & Oats Smoothie
This is one of the recipes I make often for my family in the mornings – it makes enough for a small smoothie each for myself, my husband and my two children. You can adjust as needed for your family. If it is just for yourself keep it to one of each ingredient and it should work out perfectly.
If you have not had a chance to freeze your ingredients you can add some ice in to make it nice and chilly. I prefer to always use frozen ingredients for my smoothies because it makes it so cold and fresh. It is also easier to plan each week when I can freeze daily portions.
- 2 x cooked and frozen sweet potatoes
- 2 x frozen bananas
- 2 x tablespoons of oats
- 2 x teaspoons of desiccated coconut
- 1 ½ x cup almond milk
- 3 x scoops of Nature’s Nutrition Raw Chocolate Superfood powder
Raw Chocolate, Strawberry and Blueberry Power Smoothie
Another favourite recipe for smoothies is one that my 8 year old daughter came up with. It is surprisingly tasty and gives such an awesome morning energy boost. As mentioned above, this recipe feeds our family of two adults and two children so feel free to adjust and play around with the amounts to get it right for you.
- 1 x cup chopped and frozen strawberries
- 1 x cup frozen blueberries
- 1 x chopped and frozen banana
- 1 x chopped and frozen apple
- 1 ½ x cup almond milk
- 3 x tablespoons organic aloe juice
- 3 x scoops of Nature’s Nutrition Raw Chocolate Superfood powder
My Verdict For Nature’s Nutrition Raw Chocolate Superfood Powder
This flavour is a winner in our home. My kids are so in love with it and consider it an absolute treat. Anything that is healthy and my kids go wild for gets my stamp of approval.
I love the different taste that this brings to all of the smoothies we add it to plus a lot of the smoothies look like chocolate milkshakes. Just note that the strawberry and blueberry recipe above comes out a dark purple so this is not always the case.
So it’s healthy, it’s tasty, it’s fun and my kids and I love it. This ticks all the right boxes. What’s not to like about Nature’s Nutrition Raw Chocolate?
Plus there are plenty of other Nature’s Nutrition products to try out.
Nature’s Nutrition Raw Chocolate seems really great as a nutrition supplement. The health properties of raw Cacao are immense. I can also see that the powder has so many other healthy ingredients including spirulina, flax seed, probiotics, etc. The best part is that this promises health and taste as well.
Yes there are some amazing ingredients in this superfood powder. I just love the fact that the first thing I do every day is make sure that I get in such a boost of nutrition as well as my hubby and kids.
I struggle to get my child to eat breakfast in the morning. He usually only eats after 9.30 and I know this isn’t good for a school child as they require energy to get through the morning, hes only 4 butvwe need to break this habit now before he gets to primary school. Nothing I’ve trued works. We force a fruit down his throat as we get to school in the morning usually, sometimes he refuses that too, im definitely going to purchase this, hopefully a yummy smoothie in the morning will do the trick.
Where would be the best place to buy it? Dischem?
I don’t shop at Dischem so I don’t know if they stock their products but I would think that they do. Clicks stocks Nature’s Nutrition… but I think the easiest is to buy direct from their website, they will deliver to your door which I always love. The link to their website is in the post 🙂
I used to think that cocoa is the best untill I read this post! I’ve discovered that cacau is better!! I want to get myself and my family cacau. Thanks for this website!
Im shocked at the benefits of the product. Seems like a great product to try
Thank you for this
anything healthy my eldest shys away from. Think I should give this a try,it is after all chocolate flavoured and that’s his favourite taste
Love this, I did not know there was a difference between cacao and cocoa but it actually makes sense when you think about it lol.
