7 Homemade Food Recipes for your Baby’s First Year

According to World Health Organization, you should keep exclusive breastfeeding for the very first six months to make sure both you and your are baby healthy. Then, what’s next?

From 6-12 months, with the appearance of infant toys and gear, your little one will be more likely to play more and get hungry soon.

With that being said, below are 7 homemade food recipes for your child:

Apple and cinnamon homemade baby puree

Apples and Cinnamon Purée

Suitable for 6+ months

Ingredients:

  • 4 apples
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup of water, breast milk or formula

Step 1: Peel, core and chop the apples into quarters.

Step 2: Add the apples, water, and cinnamon to a saucepan.

Step 3: Cover and heat on medium for 10 to 15 minutes, until the apples are tender. If you can cut the apples with a wooden spoon, then it’s done.

Step 4: Let them cool down slightly.

Step 5: Put them into a food processor or blender, keep puréeing until smooth. You can also add some breast milk or formula.




Green Beans and Parsley Purée

Suitable for 6+ months

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup of fresh green beans
  • a teaspoon of dried parsley
  • a cup of water, breast milk or formula

Step 1: Roughly chop the green beans.

Step 2: Steam the green beans and sprinkle some parsley.

Step 3: Wait for about 8 minutes, then let them cool.

Step 4: Put all the ingredients into a blender or food processor and purée until smooth.

Chicken Curry, Tomato and Vegetables Purée

Suitable for 9+ months

Ingredients:

  • a teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil
  • a teaspoon of mild curry powder
  • ½ cup of unsweetened coconut milk
  • a small chicken breast
  • a sweet potato
  • a small onion
  • half of a tomato
  • half of a garlic clove
  • 30 grams of baby spinach leaves

Step 1: Finely chop the onion and garlic clove, then fry for 2 minutes in a saucepan.

Step 2: Add the powder and stir until it’s well blended.

Step 3: Cut the chicken breast into small pieces, then add to the saucepan and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 4: Dice the sweet potato and tomato, put them into the saucepan.

Step 5: Pour some water to cover all of them. Also, stir in the coconut milk.

Step 6: Reduce the heat, wait for about 25 minutes or until the sweet potato gets tender.

Step 7: Add the baby spinach leaves and cook for additional 2 minutes, then let the saucepan cool slightly.

Step 8: Put all the ingredients into a blender then keep puréeing until smooth.




Cream Cheese, Leek and Baby Spinach

Suitable for 9+ months

Ingredients:

  • a block of cream cheese
  • a leek
  • a cup of baby spinach
  • a teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • ½ garlic clove
  • a teaspoon of parsley
  • some crackers

Step 1: Chop the light green and white part of the leek.

Step 2: Roughly chop the parsley.

Step 3: Blend all the ingredients until smooth, scrape down the sides for every 15 seconds.

Step 4: Serve with the crackers or sandwiches and your baby will love it!

Salmon, Celery, Potato and Onions Purée

Suitable for 9+ months

Ingredients:

  • a teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil
  • 200 grams of salmon fillet
  • a small potato
  • half of a red pepper
  • half of a red onion
  • a small onion
  • half of a tomato
  • 50 grams of celery
  • 30 grams of parsley

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F, then put a piece of tin foil and place it dull side up.

Step 2: Peel and cut the potato into thin rounds then put it in the center of the foil.

Step 3: Seed and cut into rounds the pepper, onions.

Step 4: Put the salmon on top of the potatoes, then place the onions, tomatoes, peppers and celery on top.

Step 5: Pour the olive oil, then add the parsley.

Step 6: Carefully fold and seal the edges of the foil, then bake for about 35 minutes.

Step 7: Put all the ingredients into a blender and don’t forget any juices on the foil. Purée until smooth.

Beef, Tomatoes and Pasta

Suitable for 9+ months

Ingredients:

  • a teaspoon of olive oil
  • 150 grams of lean fresh ground beef
  • 2 ripe tomatoes
  • a teaspoon of tomato paste
  • ½ cup of pasta shells
  • 2 fresh basil leaves
  • 5 fresh oregano leaves
  • a small carrot
  • ½ garlic clove
  • half of a small onion
  • 50 grams of celery

Step 1: Finely chop the onion, then fry for 2-3 minutes in a saucepan with the olive oil.

Step 2: Crush the garlic, then add to fry for 30 seconds or until fragrant.

Step 3: Cut the carrot into small pieces and dice the celery, then add to the saucepan and fry for another 4 minutes or until the vegetables get tender.

Step 4: Add the beef and cook for less than 5-10 minutes or until it’s well browned inside.

Step 5: Cut the tomatoes into rounds, roughly chop the basil and oregano leaves.

Step 6: Add all of them and the tomato paste to the saucepan, cover with enough water.

Step 7: Lower the heat, then cook for another 25 minutes or until the vegetables are soft, then let them cool slightly.

Step 8: Cook the pasta shells, then put all the ingredients into a blender. Purée until smooth, add some warm water if you want a thinner one.




Beef, Red Onion, Sweet Potato and Broccoli Purée

Suitable for 9+ months

Ingredients:

  • a sweet potato
  • a teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil
  • 90 grams of lean ground beef
  • half of a small red onion
  • 50 grams of broccoli florets
  • a cup of water, breast milk or formula

Step 1: Peel and dice the sweet potato, roughly chop the red onion.

Step 2: Cook the onion in a medium saucepan for 3-4 minutes with the oil.

Step 3: Add the beef and cook less than 4 minutes or until it’s brown inside.

Step 4: Steam the sweet potato for about 16-18 minutes or until you can pierce it easily with a fork.

Step 5: Add the broccoli florets and cook for 3-5 minutes.

Step 6: Put all the ingredients into a blender or food processor. If your baby prefers a thinner purée, add some reserved water or breast milk.

  1. I wish I had seen this way back when Lynne. These are awesome. I tried to be honest and then realized i’m quite a lazy mother 😛 and what i landed up doing was blending what we were eating that evening and gave it to my little one 😛

    • That is another way of doing it for sure Tamara. With my son we actually did baby-led weaning, so we didn’t puree anything!

      • Ive just read your blog on baby-led weaning. I had never heard of this before and all i can think about was the first time i gave my little one yoghurt to eat by herself LOL Very messy.

      • Well baby-led weaning is not the tidiest way to go about things, but it really worked well for my son. A lot better than it did for my daughter 🙂

I thought it will be easy just make these snacks/recipes and start giving i have a long way to go still knew it and are very careful but think i imagine my son different LOL its just a baby still im taking it easy one thing at a time his eating a chippie or finger biscuit so cute and they way we will nearly.
