5 Signs You Need Relationship Therapy

Almost every new relationship starts off exciting and with that intense feeling of falling in love. It would be amazing if this feeling stayed forever but the fact is that the honeymoon phase of relationships fade away and a more mature love takes it place. One that takes hard work and commitment to keep the relationship going.

Every relationship will have its ups and downs. Personal challenges and life changes such as getting married and having a baby will put strain on relationships.

The best time for couples counseling is when the relationship is going well and both parties are happy. You may think that you don’t need it then but being in therapy can help to prepare you and make your relationship stronger for when any challenges do come up.

Here are some signs that you may need couples counseling:

5 Signs Your Need Relationship Therapy

You No Longer Feel In Love

Yes that exciting feeling of falling in love will fall away as your relationship progresses but it is important to feel in love and loved in a relationship.

Love is not just a feeling it is something that you do when you feel in love and loved. It is the many small things that you do to show your partner that you love him or her. Listening to your partner, hugging, cuddles and eye contact are important. When these things start slipping and resentment and irritation start creeping in you need to take some action to repair your relationship.

Communication Problems

Good communication is key to a healthy relationship so if you are having communication difficulties it is always a great idea to start couples counseling. If you are having trouble communicating in a healthy way with your partner you are going to have challenges every time your relationship hits any hurdles.

If you can learn how to communicate well with each other it will make getting through any hard times much smoother.

Constant Bickering

If you are constantly fighting and if conversation often turn to bickering with each other it is a sure sign that something is not right in your relationship. While the bickering itself is not really the issue, it is a symptom that there is something else in your relationship that is not working properly. If you get some help at this stage it could prevent the bickering turning into a more serious problem.

Decline In Sex Life

Physical intimacy is a very important part of a healthy relationship. If one or both partners are feeling unsatisfied with sex it can become a very sore point in a relationship.

When one partner wants more sex than the other it can lead to one partner feeling rejected, with the other feeling pressurized. Sex is a particularly touchy subject that is hard to talk about and can lead to a lot of frustration and embarrassment but if it is not dealt with it can quickly cause a lot of damage in a relationship.

Affairs

If one partner has an affair, or perhaps even both, it can wreak havoc on a relationship. Affairs can be physical, but they can also be emotional. Emotional betrayals can be very painful and difficult to work through even if the behaviors seem innocent.

It is important that both partners in a relationship share physical and emotional intimacy with each other and not with other people. If there is a physical or emotional affair getting counseling to work through those feelings of betrayal and hurt will be very helpful. Working through an affair without therapy will be much harder for a couple.
