It’s not surprising that air fryers are so popular, they are marvellous gadgets that are very versatile and come with many amazing benefits. They can cook multiple dishes at once in a fraction of the time it would take you to cook them in a conventional oven. You will be able to cook healthier meals since your dishes are cooked using hot-air circulation and don’t require oil. They are also super easy to clean up, making them a firm favourite for many moms around the globe.
Many air fryers will come with a recipe book to help you get started, but just in case you don’t have a recipe book, or maybe you are looking for something new to try, here are some great recipes to try out in your air fryer:
Teriyaki Chicken
This Asian dish is really easy to make and absolutely delicious. It will feed 4 – 6 people.
Ingredients:
- 4 boneless chicken thighs – cut each in half
- 3 tablespoons of ginger juice
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 1½ cup sake
- 1 cup mirin
- 1 spring onion stalk
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
Method:
Place the chicken in a bowl and place the spring onion stalk on top.
Add the sake, mirin, ginger juice, soy sauce garlic powder, sugar and black pepper. Give it a bit of a stir to mix the ingredients. Place the dish in the fridge to marinate for a few hours.
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C .
Remove the chicken from the dish and place it skin down in the air fryer basket and set the timer to cook it for 10 minutes. Then turn the chicken over and cook it for another 8 minutes at 200°C.
While your chicken is cooking add the remainder of the sauce to a pan and reduce over heat. Add 1 ½ tablespoons of soy sauce and add a little cornstarch to thicken it.
When your chicken is cooked serve it with rice and pour the sauce over then sprinkle it with sesame seeds.
Spicy Barbecue Chicken Drumsticks
This super tasty recipe will feed 4 people and will take just 20 minutes to cook in addition to your preparation time.
Ingredients:
- 4 chicken drumsticks
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic
- ½ teaspoon of mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- salt and pepper
Method:
Preheat your air fryer to 200ºC.
Mix the garlic, mustard, brown sugar and chilli powder, adding salt and pepper to taste. Lastly mix in the oil.
Rub the sauce into the chicken drumsticks and leave it to marinade for 20 – 30 minutes.
Put the drumsticks into the air fryer basket and insert the basket into the air fryer. Set the time for 10 minutes and then turn the air fryer down to 150°C and put the timer on for another 10 minutes until done.
In summer you can serve these delicious drumsticks with salad and garlic bread, in winter you can team them up with rice, butternut and peas.
Fried Chicken
This air fried chicken recipe will feed 4 people. You wouldn’t think that air fried chicken would come out crispy but it comes out perfectly crispy.
Ingredients:
- 4 chicken thighs
- ½ cup flour
- 1 beaten egg
- 2 tablespoons of cajun spice
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Method:
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C.
Whisk the flour, cajun spice and salt together.
Roll the chicken pieces through the dry flour mix, then through the egg mix and again through the dry flour mix. Shake off the excess flour before placing your chicken pieces in the air fryer basket.
Cook for 25 minutes.
Serve the fried chicken with coleslaw and pasta salad.
Sriracha Honey Chicken Wings
This sweet and sour chicken wings dish will serve 2-3 people.
Ingredients:
- 500g chicken wings cut into separate pieces
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- juice from one lemon
- 2 tablespoons of sriracha sauce
- ¼ cup of honey
- 1 ½ tablespoons of soy sauce
Method:
Preheat your air fryer to 180°C.
Place your chicken wing pieces in the air fryer basket and cook for 30 minutes. Turn them after 15 minutes.
While your chicken wings are cooking you can add all the ingredients to a saucepan and bring it to the boil for 3 minutes. When your wings are cooked add them to your sauce and sprinkle with chopped chives and sesame seeds to garnish.
