Your Senior Years Checklist

If you have just celebrated your 55th birthday, firstly, congratulations, and secondly, do you have a list of things that you should be prioritizing now that you are officially considered part of the senior community? It’s always hard to gear down into a frame of mind that has left middle age behind and has set a steady course for retirement and pensionable downtime.

Here is a checklist of all the things you should consider doing at the earliest opportunity once you turn fifty-five.

Check If Your Bank Offers Reduced Fees

It is a little-known fact (and one that the banks like to keep a secret) that you are often eligible for reduced banking fees the minute you turn 55 years old. Because many bank patrons are not alerted to this fact, they continue to pay full price for all their banking services. If you have been doing this to date, unfortunately, there is no way that you can ask for the fees to be backdated.

Once you turn 55, head on down to your bank in person and find out if they have a rule in place that offers this kind of reduction. If they don’t, you should perhaps consider moving your checking account to one that does. This would also be a good time to find out if your savings are in the highest possible interest rate scheme and how much tax you will be paying on that.

Medical Aid And Health Plan

This is a really important thing to do once you leave middle age behind and begin heading towards old age. Senior health care should be your top priority as should be finding a medical aid plan that is geared towards your needs. Fortunately, this is one area where you can shop around until you find the perfect deal that fits your medical and health assessment requirements.

This is one place where burying your head in the sand and pretending you’re still forty-nine is not the best strategy. There are some stellar schemes out there that focus on the health needs of the elderly. Join one now and rest easy that your health and wellness needs are being met.

Fitness Tests

If you are a member of a gym or yoga class, make inquiries as to whether they know of any health and fitness testing services in your area. They may even offer these tests at your gym itself. This is an essential examination to have once your body starts to change with the aging process.

They might suggest that you begin taking a supplement such as calcium or vitamin C. They will probably also request a certificate from your doctor if you want to start doing a particularly strenuous exercise regimen. It is in your best interest to find out where your fitness level stands and discover if you are comfortable with it.

Remember that when you look after your body, health, and finances, your life will be significantly brighter and better—so check your list now.
