3 Soothing Winter Drinks Recipes including Marc Zboch’s Marc Thomas

With the coronavirus sweeping across the world and many countries now heading into winter, it is important to stay home and stay healthy. Here are some winter recipes to keep you warm and healthy and make staying home a little easier during the colder months. These drinks will warm you up from the inside out and are a wonderful way to spice up the upcoming festivities at home this year. They are all simple and quick to make, making your life easier!


Marc Thomas

There is nothing better than a warm drink to keep us comfortable on wet and cold days during winter and this drink by Marc Zboch is just the thing.

This is the perfect drink to get yourself kick started on cold mornings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teabag or 2 teaspoons black tea (Darjeeling tea is best but you can get by with Ceylon or Assam too)
  • 200ml water (filtered)
  • 3 bitter dashes

Method:

  • Boil the water and let it sit for a minute letting the temperature cool slightly
  • Add the tea and let it draw for 4 – 5 minutes
  • Remove the teabag or tea leaves and add your bitters

Warm drinks

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

This is the perfect drink that the entire family can enjoy whether it be a Christmas day treat or a family movie night snuggled up on the couch.

Ingredients:

  • 200g chocolate bar
  • 600ml milk
  • 200ml cream
  • 6 peppermint candy canes
  • optional – sugar to taste

Method:

  • Add the milk into a pan on low heat
  • Add the chocolate (broken into small pieces) and slowly melt while stirring
  • When the chocolate has all melted and the milk is steaming remove from the heat
  • Stir in the cream and add sugar to taste
  • Divide the hot chocolate into 6 mugs
  • Hang a candy cane on each mug which can be used to stir the hot chocolate and it will melt adding a divine peppermint taste

Orange and Nutmeg Coffee

Coffee lovers will fall head over heels for this recipe that is perfect for after dinner or cold mornings. It will certainly help to bring on the festive spirit.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons coffee
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 dates (pitted)
  • 2 cloves
  • orange zest that has been pared
  • 400ml boiled water

Method:

  • Add all the ingredients into a large coffee plunger, pouring the boiling water in last
  • Stir gently the leave it to draw for 5 minutes
  • Gently push the plunger down and serve in cups

Gluhwein Drink

There is a reason that Gluhwein is such a popular drink in the colder months of the year. With the aroma of brandy, red wine, spices and orange you can’t go wrong to add this drink to your festivities this year.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon works well)
  • 150ml brandy
  • 200g castor sugar
  • 1 sliced orange
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 5 cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 3 slices ginger

Method:

  • Add the wine, castor sugar, orange slices, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and ginger to a shallow pot or large pan and warm on a low heat for 15 minutes – make very sure not to let the mixture come to the boil
  • Stir in the brandy and serve warm
