Week 5 My Weight Loss Journey

I know that not every week will go well and I know that this is a process, but still when I fail at something I take it very hard and this last week of my weight loss journey has not exactly been a raging a success.

So what went wrong? Thankfully at least I can pinpoint the exact problem. School holidays! More specifically that my kids went away to my parents for 7 full days. I didn’t have to get up, lift kids to school or make endless sandwiches with the crusts cut off and cut into little squares.

I didn’t even have to get up in the morning if I didn’t feel like it. So yes I let things slide completely. In my defense this is the second time every that my kids have both stayed at my parents – the first time was for 3 days in April this year.

My kids are usually either at school or with me, we don’t even hire a baby sitter ever. Maybe once a year my hubby and I will go out for dinner and my mother in law will babysit for us.

So yes I let things go in a big way and I guess I shouldn’t be so hard on myself, its not every day a mother gets 7 days off.

The important thing I believe is to evaluate what went wrong and plan for how to avoid the same mistake in the future. So I will be keeping this experience in mind when December arrives!

Here were my goals for the last week and how I did with them:

  1. Be mindful of portion sizes
  2. Eat a piece of fruit every day at 3pm
  3. Exercise 4 times – 2 x 32 minute cardio home workout and 2 x 37 minute cardio home workout

For watching my portion sizes I did great, but for eating a piece of fruit every day at 3pm I didn’t manage to do it every day – I did 5 days out of 7.

Then for the exercise, that is where I came short. I did one 32 minute cardio home workout. I did manage to go for a hike with my husband on the weekend which maybe made up for it exercise-wise but that was not part of my goals and I want to achieve the exact goals that I set out for myself.

So just looking at my goals it may look like I didn’t do too badly but the truth is that a huge part of what I am wanting to achieve is to get myself into healthier habits. Each week when I make new goals it doesn’t mean that the previous weeks just fall away, my plan is to maintain those previous goals too.

This is where I fell very short this week. I was supposed to be drinking 2 lt water every day, 2 cups of green tea every day, eating a healthy breakfast, eating a healthy 10am snack and eating salad with every supper. I did not achieve any of those goals.

Due to the fact that I had a bad week I decided not to weigh or measure myself. I don’t want to be disappointed so I will do another weigh and measurement next week.

I know that I said I would be setting 3 new goals every week, but this week going forward I am not going to do that. I feel that it is vitally important that I get back on track first so this week I am only setting 2 goals.

  1. To complete my goals properly from last week.
  2. To get back on track with maintaining all my previous goals that I let slip this week.

I know that I can do this and there is a lesson to be learned. Every other time I have made an effort to lose weight and to get fit I have done well for a while and then let things slowly slide again. This time I am doing things differently and I am determined to succeed. This week is just about getting back on track and not throwing all my hard work away.

I will catch up with you all next week Wednesday, have a great week and don’t forget to update me on your progress.
