5 Essential Tips To Spend Quality Time With Your Kids

Why Quality Time With Our Kids Is Essential

Kids mimic by observing what we (their role models) do. Allocating some time to spend with them will help them to learn loads. Parents play a valuable role in assisting kids with nurturing important life skills, including writing, social, reading, communication, and more. Bonding time with kids helps shape their personalities. A lack of quality time can lead to issues like attention-seeking behavior, particularly in public locations where parents are forced to pay attention. Allocate some time away from your hectic exhausting schedule to give them your full attention. It can be as little as 30 minutes a day.

5 Essential Tips To Spend Quality Time With Your Kids

  1. Put The Electronics Aside

This includes television, video games, and mobile phones that are distracting. Kids nowadays are more than happy to spend most of their time staring at their screens which is not healthy. These activities can also provide a bonding experience, so you can do it over weekends, for instance, but not all the time.

The idea is to engage in physical activities with them like doing arts and crafts, sharing a family meal, or coloring books for kids. There are various benefits linked to coloring books, not just for kids but also for adults. It is a fun and relaxing activity for all to enjoy. Creative Fabrica offers an extensive range of coloring pages and books for kids, as well as activity books such as word searches, mazes, and more. Whether your child is into unicorns, dragons, or dinosaurs, there is something for everyone.

  1. A Constructive Bedtime Ritual

This involves a specific bedtime routine that you and your child have each night. Reading a bedtime story can be both a learning and fun experience. There are so many educational children’s books that you can buy that teach them valuable life skills along with other important skills like vocabulary and developing reading skills. During this time, you can also open the channels of communication. Ask them how their day was, what they learned anything new during the day or of they did something fun at school. Whatever you do, make sure they understand that you are available and accessible without any distractions.

  1. Make It A Part Of Your Daily Schedule

Irrespective if you are a stay-at-home or working parent, allocate time to spend with your child. It could be any time during the day when you have some free time or before bedtime. It could be something simple like helping them with their homework. After a tiresome day at the office or doing household chores, it’s not always easy to fit quality time into your schedule. Why not include your child to lend you a hand? Ask them to help you with folding the laundry, setting the table, or washing utensils.

  1. Make A Date

Make turns with your spouse to spend some quality bonding time with your child. Select a specific day, allow him or her to choose the activity, and get them to open up. You might hear plenty of things that you wouldn’t otherwise. Going for walks or a drive to your nearest playground or shop. Walking can offer a fun, exercising, and learning experience. On your way, you can point out interesting new things like a beautiful flower or an insect or lizard that you haven’t seen before. You can also listen for the sounds of different birds. A bit of fresh air and some exercise can do wonders for the soul.

Final Thoughts

For most of us, quitting our jobs to spend more quality time with our kids is not an option. Besides, they also attend school and extra-curricular activities. The best thing we can do is to make a few adjustments to our daily routine and allocate a few minutes every day to spend with our kids. It could also offer a welcome break from work and chores.

Bonding time with your children can be beneficial for both of you. Our kids grow up so quickly. Before we know it, they will be all grown up and have kids of their own. Now is the time to make those memories. It’s often the small things that matter the most to them, and the most precious gift we can offer our children is our time.

    • I know exactly what you mean about the screen time, this is something we struggle with especially when I need to focus on my work. My kids and I do something every afternoon, we love building puzzles together. It is quite tricky with the cold so we watch movies in bed together quite a lot. In summer we get out onto the beach, go for walks, and hikes.
