Mommy makeovers becoming more popular

Mommy Makeovers Becoming More Popular

Now when I think of a makeover I think of getting a new haircut with a tint, having my eyebrows waxed and tinted… things along those lines. So when I think of a mommy makeover I think of a mom having a new look but still relatively natural.

However I have been hearing more and more about the mommy makeover, referring to one session of surgical procedures for moms that targets not just one area, but the body areas that have been affected by pregnancy. So it is mainly the breasts and stomach area. The idea behind a mommy makeover is that it is about restoring the women as close as possible to her pre-pregnancy state.

Common Mommy Makeover Procedures Include:

Breast Enhancement

According to Dr Evan W Breale (breast augmentation Dallas), breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures. During pregnancy and breastfeeding breasts change their shape and size due to the hormonal changes. Breasts sag and lose tissue.

If you are happy with the size of your breast but they are sagging you may want a breast lift which removes some of the excess skin which has stretched during pregnancy. This will help your breasts become more perky and sit higher up.

Breast implants can help you restore the firmness and fullness of your breasts. You may also want go up a breast size from your pre-pregnancy size. If you have breast implants you may get away with not having a breast lift if your skin is still relatively elastic and your breasts are not drooping too much.

Bear in mind that a breast lift will leave more scars than breast implants, but it will be more of a long term solution than breast implants.

Tummy Tuck

After pregnancy your tummy will change in shape and size. Sometimes you can recover close to your pre-pregnancy shape with a good diet and exercise, however chances are high that you won’t be able to achieve the exact same figure you had before you became a mother. Plus as you age your figure will also change a bit.

Having a tummy tuck can help you to achieve the results that you desire, as long as your doctor gives the go ahead.

It is important to stress that having a tummy tuck is not an easy surgery that is quick to recover from. A tummy tuck involves tightening up the stomach muscles, removing excess skin and often removing some of the fat using liposuction.

There are different options for a tummy tuck:

  • traditional tummy tuck
  • extended tummy tuck
  • mini tummy tuck
  • reverse tummy tuck

You will be left with scarring but this should be near your bikini area. If you have had a c-section the surgeon can use the same incision so you don’t have an extra scar.

Fat Removal

Liposuction removes fat from the body. However it doesn’t do anything to help with the extra skin, stretched muscles, stretched abdominal wall or stretch marks. For this reason women often choose liposuction in conjunction with a tummy tuck instead of liposuction on its own.

Skin Tighteners

For women that are not needing too much work done, a non-surgical procedure may be enough to tighten the skin. This involves a prescription strength retinol cream (which will help to produce collagen), along with laser treatment that also builds collagen.

While this treatment can be relatively effective it will never produce the same results as surgery and the results are not permanent.

Stretch Mark Removal

Stretch marks can be reduced through exercise and by moisturizing, however if they are not fading you can consider other methods.

Laser skin treatments can be quite effective with reducing stretch marks but the procedure is not a permanent solution.

During a tummy tuck stretch marks can be removed depending on where they are positioned, or they can be repositioned further down the stomach so they are not so visible.

There are other procedures that women often choose to include at the same time as their mommy makeover, but these listed above are the most common procedures.

It is important to consider only having a mommy makeover if you are finished having your children since if you have a child after having these procedures done it will undo all the work.

Recovery time after a mommy makeover will vary depending on the types of procedures that you have chosen. You should allow at least one week for full rest and taking up light activities from the second week of your recovery period. Exercise and any strenuous activity should be avoided until at least 4-6 weeks after your surgery.

If you have very young children it would be a good idea to get full time help to while you recover.

Dr Even Beale (plastic surgery Dallas) advises that while having a mommy makeover has great benefits of only having one session it is important to consult with your surgeon to realistic goals for your treatment.

  1. @lynne I’m to scared to even ask the prices of some of these procedures. Lol
The breasts and tummy i can understand, definitely 🙂 The stretch marks however, my personal opinion, is that those are my “battle scars” as i call them. Proof that i grew my darling for 9 months and that my body changed drastically all to bring her to life. I wouldn’t go as far as to say i love them, please don’t get me wrong, but to be honest, they honestly are not that much of an eye sore for me 🙂

LOL, I have to agree with you. When I think of a Mommy make-over I also think along the lines of a haircut, make up session and maybe a new outfit or two.

It was interesting reading about these procedures though.

If you have the money and you’re up for it, I can’t see any reason why not. Each to their own.

But me personally are too much of a scaredy cat and my purse is too empty too afford this.

When I think of the surgeries and the recovery time I cringe inside. It all just sounds too painful and I’ve seen those programs where people recover from plastic or other surgeries relating to body enhancement. Some of them looks like they’ve been in a major accident or something.

One the one hand I wouldn’t mind if my breasts and tummy can be restored to their former state (when I was still a young lady). It would have been easier if it was more affordable and if you had an option with very little pain involved.

But on the other hand, I am not so critical of myself and my body as I used to be. I’ve learned to love myself and I celebrate my “flaws” especially the one’s that I have after child birth.

    • I won’t even consider doing this but that’s just my opinion I love my saggy boobs lol and stretch marks those are my battle scars and I just love me

I wouldn’t mind perky boobs and no stretch marks, but at the expense of surgery? No I wouldn’t change myself that way!
