A few years ago I shared on my blog the Jungle Juice Recipe that I was using for increasing my energy as a new mom and also to help me increase my breastmilk supply. Some moms have asked me about a jungle juice recipe using Rooibos so I have scouted around and come up with this awesome jungle juice recipe with rooibos.

Jungle Juice Recipe With Rooibos
Ingredients:
- 30ml Blackthorn Berry Elixir
- 1 cup of fruit juice (litchi, mango or apple)
- 3 cups rooibos tea cooled (3 cups hot water with 3 rooibos tea bags – leave to draw for 5 minutes before removing rooibos tea bags)
- 1 sachet of Rehydrate (add it to a cup of boiled water that has cooled down)
- 10 drops of Rescue Remedy
- 1 liter of water
Mix all the ingredients together in a 2 liter jug. Put it in your fridge to chill.
When I made this I used an empty 2lt plastic container from fruit juice – it stores better in a fridge than a jug, it costs nothing and it helps to recycle and re-use things.
Make sure to drink the whole 2 liters in a 24 hour period. Drink it before and after breastfeeding to help keep hydrated and keep your energy levels at an optimum.
I hope you enjoy this alternative recipe using Rooibos Tea. Rooibos is absolutely brilliant for you and will help to rejuvenate a tired mom that is struggling with low energy levels. Rooibos tea is also fantastic for babies.
One of the bonuses of this alternative jungle juice recipe is that it uses a lot less fruit juice so there is less sugar. Due to the lower sugar content you are less likely to get thrush which can be quite common when drinking the standard jungle juice recipe.
Thank you @lynne this is what i need to boost my energy am pretty tired with those sleepless night an having because of the baby. But as the breast milk lols i have plenty my breast are always full and the lick to much especially when am feeding him.
Love this alternative recipe that contains less sugar! Thrush is one less problem we could all do without
Yes I couldn’t agree more! I tried the original Jungle Juice recipe and I was always worried about thrush but was fortunate not to get it. I have heard that women that are susceptible to thrush have had problems drinking Jungle Juice so this recipe with Rooibos is a much better alternative.
I’m so glad I came across this
I never tried the original recipe myself but I’ve heard a lot of people recommend it and a lot say to stay away because of thrush
I’m keen on trying this as it’s a healthier alternative to regular juices and soft drinks
I do love my water though, so I don’t think it’s something I’d drink to completely replace my water intake
I have saved this recipe…. from next week on my second breastfeeding journey will begin!
Oh wow, so your baby is due next week? How exciting 🙂 I’m glad to be able to share this recipe with you.
This is a great recipe Lynne. I will most definitely give it a try. I love Rooibos tea. Proudly South African product and it has so many health benefits.
So glad I came across this recipe. Thank you so much. With my first baby I exclusively pumped so that he was able to drink breastmilk, but keeping hydrated was a bit of a mission and the recipe I had was very high in sugar. I am definitely going to use this recipe on my next breastfeeding journey. Thank you so much. 🙂
This recipe really helped me alot 4 years ago. It gave me the energy boost I needed ( like all new mommies need) at the time and helped with my milk supply.
Very healthy option to boost your energy levels 🙂
I never really bothered the Jungle Juice recipe as I am blessed with good milk supply – even now at 10 and a half months and still going strong. I LOVE rooibos and live in the bushveld where winter only starts biting in middle June. I am going to try this recipe purely for energy and a healthy, cool, Rooibos drink. Thanks!
Thanks for this recipe Lynne. I have been drinking Jungle Juice since I came home from hospital to help keep hydrated, energised and to help boosst production. However I am very prone to cystitis, especially when stressed, and processed sugars, such as those found in fruit juice, are a definate trigger. This recipe tastes much better than the original and I can drink it without worrying about cystitis or thrush! On days when I am really struggling I have even been known to add a scoop of Game powder to this mix – my version of an energy drink since I can’t drink anyything with caffeine in it either….
I can’t believe I found this recipe! I love Jungle juice so I am keen to try it with the Rooibos tea added. We are almost 8 months into our breastfeeding journey and I struggle to stay hydrated because I’m not much of a water drinker.
I really love the rooibos variation on the jungle juice recipe. Healthier alternative to the fruit juice version.
Yes the rooibos really does make a huge impact on this recipe, so much healthier!
Hi,what can I use instead of the Remedy drops, really want to start today and don’t have some😊
I’m sure it will be almost as good if you just leave those out!
This is a wonderful alternative to the traditional recipe which has so much sugar! I love rooibos.
This is my go to jungle juice recipe since my eldest was born in 2017.
Got it from a good friend.
Oh wow. I absolutely love this alternative to medication. I really need this, because even though I am taking all the vitamins and minerals I an supposed to be taking. I still feel tired. I wanted to know whether I should make a new batch as soon as the first 2 litre has been consumed? Is it something that can be consumed daily?
Hi Jill – I drank some almost every day with my second pregnancy and it really helped with my energy levels and staying hydrated 🙂
Love the recipe. Something a bit different I always make iced tea with the rooibos flavored teas and they are delightful.
