Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet Review

Features of Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet

The Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet has a battery life of up to eight hours, and will fully re-charge within six hours. Children may read on it, listen to music, play games, watch videos, and surf the web. It has 16GB of storage, but can be expanded up to 256 GB with the use of the microSD card slot. There is a mono speaker with a built-in microphone.

The tablet has a quad core 1.3 GHz processor and a camera that is VGA front facing +2 MP rear-facing with 7200p HD video recording. Children will appreciate the fact that they can take pictures and videos of things that are important to them, such as a trip to the zoo or time spent with their friends. It has a resolution of 1024 X 1600 pixels.

Pros of Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet

One of the biggest, and probably nicest, pros of the Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet is if it breaks, Amazon will replace the unit with no questions asked. This is a two-year guarantee that really appeals to me. I know as well as anyone how messy kids can be or how carefree they are. They are constantly knocking over their apple juice or placing their toys at the table in a not so gentle manner.

I also love freebies when it comes to purchasing anything. This tablet comes with one full year of FreeTime Unlimited. Here your child will find access to over 15,000 games, videos, books, educational content and apps that are popular at the moment. The content will come from PBS Kids, Disney, Nickelodeon, and more.

An added incentive to this is that the background color of the tablet will change to be blue to let parents know that what their child is watching is kid friendly. This is a kid safe browser with access to 55,000 websites and Youtube videos. You can also create a profile for your child to give them access to your personal library, selecting only what you want them to do, such as Netflix.

Each child in your household can have their own profile, up to four children. These profiles will not have access to social media accounts, emails, or the ability to purchase apps that are not free.

Something that I love is that the parent controls work as they should. A pin number can be set so that only controls are changed once this code has been punched in. You can set the tablet so your child may play games for half an hour, or whatever you feel is best for them. And you may also require your child to do something productive before they have fun on the tablet, such as read for a set amount of time.

There is also a parent dashboard that I find to be amazing. How many times have you asked your children questions about what they just read or learned, only be to be answered with “I don’t know” or “nothing”? With this dashboard, you can review what your children are doing on the tablet. There will also be discussion cards that give questions about what your child has accessed, which is a great way to get children talking.

I also like the size of this tablet. It is great for smaller hands, and not super heavy. Children are able to carry it from place to place or hold on to it easily while they are using it.

Cons of Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet

While I loved the free aspect of FreeTime Unlimited, I do not much care for being automatically billed for it once the full year is up. I understand many places do it like this, but lets’ face it…after a full year, it is easy to forget about canceling it if you do not want it. Granted, it is only a few bucks a month, but time if valuable for me and so many other parents, and canceling it if you do not want it is just one more thing to add to our ever growing list of things to do!

A con that may be a big deal to some and not to others is you will not have access to Google Play apps on this tablet. The app must be on the Amazon store site in order to have access to it on this kindle. Not a huge deal for me by any means, and certainly many children will not care either.

Some feel that this tablet is really sluggish when games are played. Others have tried to Skype others using this and did not have much success. Adults will also notice that the screen is not HD. Children do not tend to notice this aspect, so I do not feel that this is a huge flaw. After all, a three-year-old does not know what high definition is.

Summary

I truly hope this Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet Review has helped you make an informed decision. I have found this is one of the best tablets for children ages 3 and up. With so many great features and FreeTime Unlimited, this tablet can make learning fun for your children. It is priced right, is easy to set up, and children love it.

The Fire-7 Kids Edition Tablet seems complete value for money. Definitely a great investment that would help the kid in so many multiple ways. I really like the fact that even in the case of it getting broken, it will be replaced, definitely something that is great when it comes to products for kids! Another important bonus seems the enormous access to books, games, and videos. It is a wonderful product to keep kids productively engaged.

Yes for sure that is a massive benefit. Kids are always dropping things and breaking them!

  3. I had no idea about kid’s tablet till now I might give it a try for my nephew who is always snatching away our phones for videos and we can’t always monitor where the youtube would direct him in the next video. Parent control is a great feature to keep a check on that. Thanks for sharing it.

Yes for sure Richa, I really believe that having a special device suited to kids is the way to go! So much easier.

  4. Had no idea there’s a kids’ tablet edition, Lynne. I like it! I love that you led with the replacement by Amazon should the device break! Such peace of mind! The background color change is a plus, too!

But automatic billing? I am always freaking out over having to give up credit card details for the trial period because I am nervous about forgetting to cancel. Nevertheless, seems like a nice gift for a child especially since we live in a digital world! Love your review, Lynne!

    • Lynne Huysamen

Yes I am NOT a fan of automatic billing when there is a free trial, it should be that when the free trial comes to an end that you need to choose whether you want to continue or not. My brain is not wired to remember these things.

  5. Fire 7 Kids seems like a great tablet for the kids. I like the no question asked policy of Amazon regarding breakage. Parents control is a great feature and so many freebies… wow!
No access to Google Play apps is a dampener but overall seems like a good buy for kids. Thanks for sharing your review, Lynne!

    • Lynne Huysamen

Yes that is a superb feature but really the only thing they need to know is that a kid uses it right? Because I am sure that they can break it in loads of different ways! And I agree with you, I like Google Play too!

  6. I have been looking for a child friendly tablet for my little girl. Where can I find this tablet? Thank you
