The grading starts from D which is referred to colorless diamonds to Z which is about diamonds with a light yellow hue to it. Grading is done by different institutions, and as far as the USA is concerned, it is done by Gemological Institute Of America. This is the standard which is used across the world and therefore if you know this grading system, you will be able to grade diamonds anywhere in the world. Diamonds with deep color are often graded as Z+, and those who have stones are referred to as fancy colored diamonds. The grading, apart from taking into account the carat and clarity, also take into account the color and other such attributes that are vital as far as colored diamonds are concerned.

Compared to white diamonds, the colored variants are slightly cheaper, but there could be some exceptions to the rule.
