Strange Early Pregnancy Symptoms
Metallic Taste In Your Mouth
This was one of my first pregnancy symptoms with my first baby, along with the typical tiredness and tender breasts. I had a constant strange taste of metal in mouth for a few weeks and even after I found out I was pregnant I never connected it with my pregnancy until I researched it.
The term for having altered taste is Dysgeusia and it can have a number of causes including pregnancy. This condition in pregnancy is caused by the increase in progesterone and estrogen.
You can try chewing on sugarless gum, drinking cold drinks, eating saltines or eating spicy foods to get rid of this metallic taste.
Nosebleeds
This is quite a common pregnancy symptom even though it may not be on all the lists of symptoms you may come across. During pregnancy blood vessels in your nose expand, putting pressure on the vessels in your nasal passages. This can lead to your nose bleeding for no apparent reason.
If you are prone to pregnancy nose bleeds try to avoid blowing your nose, especially after having a nose bleed. Make sure to keep plenty of tissues on hand when out and about.
When your nose bleeds lean forward and breathe through your mouth so that the blood drains our your nose and not down your throat. Pinch the bridge of your nose for 15 minutes to put pressure on the broken vein and stop the blood flow.
Avoid any bending or exercise for 12 hours after a nose bleed.
Veiny Breasts
It is common knowledge that your breasts change when pregnant – they can become sore and tender, they also become larger and your nipples become darker and change shape.
A stranger pregnancy symptom that is not so commonly known is that the veins in your breasts can become very prominent. This is due to the increased blood flow to your breasts during pregnancy.
Urinary Tract Infection
We all know that when you fall pregnant you may be needing to urinate more often, however if you go to the doctor and find out that you have a UTI don’t rule out pregnancy yet!
Pregnancy results in reduced immunity which can lead to an increased susceptibility to getting urinary tract infections.
Urinary tract infections during pregnancy can become serious so it is always important to have it treated by a professional rather than leaving it or trying to remedy it yourself.
Flatulence
Once again, not the most glamorous pregnancy symptom but certainly a very common early sign of pregnancy. The increased production of progesterone relaxes muscles in your body, including your small intestine, which can lead to the build up of gas.
Unfortunately this symptom can last throughout pregnancy so prepare yourself for the long haul with this one.
Thrush
Pregnant women are twice as likely to get thrush than at any other time due to the increased levels of the hormone progesterone. So once again if you have thrush and you are trying to conceive make sure to take a pregnancy test, as unpleasant as thrush is it may be good news that you are expecting!
Bleeding Gums
Once again due to the increased level of progesterone being produced and the increased blood flow in your body you may find your gums swelling and bleeding when you brush your teeth.
Runny or Stuffy Nose
Increased levels of the hormone estrogen can lead to increased mucus production. You might experience a runny or stuffy nose and you may land up sneezing a lot too.
It does not necessarily mean that you are getting a cold or suffering from allergies, it is a very common early sign of pregnancy.
Changes In Libido
Just like mood swings, your libido can swing from to cold and back again – once again this is thanks to all the hormonal changes that you will be going through.
If you are trying to fall pregnant it is important to take note that every woman experiences pregnancy differently and every pregnancy a woman has can be completely different too. Pregnancy symptoms are very similar to menstruation symptoms and things like implantation bleeding can easily be mistaken for pregnancy.
Make sure to take a home pregnancy test or visit your doctor to confirm whether you are pregnant or not.

Very interesting Lynne. I have actually heard of some of these symptoms before such as metallic taste and bleeding gums. I can’t remember what I had though. But the bleeding gum thing was scary for me even if I didn’t have it.
