Things You Should Say To Your Child Every Day

As parents we have a lasting impact on our kids’ personality and character. The way we act and what we say will leave an imprint on them most likely for the rest of their lives. Therefore, it is our responsibility to make sure that the impact that we leave on them is as positive and as beneficial as possible as it will have an effect on their well-being, development, and success.

Things You Should Say To Your Child Every Day

There are some things which we should say to our kids, and values that we need to instill in them from an early age.

– First and foremost your child needs to feel loved, and so you need to tell him/her that you love him/her daily. Your child needs to learn what love is in order to feel fulfilled and appreciated, and also to know how to love back. Kids who are told that they are loved are bound to be happier and know that they belong.

After a long day at work or doing chores you should be happy to have your child return from school, or when you go to pick him/her up from the nursery.

Tell him that you are so happy to see him and ask how the day was. Apart from showing that you missed him, you will also be showing interest in what he was up to or encountered during the day. This is very important as kids grow older as they will feel that you are truly interested in them, and they will be more likely to confide in you when they are teenagers.

You need to be interested, and a good listener even if your child is still young. So questions such as, ‘How are you?’, ‘What have you been through today?’, ‘How are you feeling?’, ‘Is something wrong?’, ‘Can I help you in any way?’, and ‘I would love to hear more about that, maybe I can help’, will go a long way.

– Praise your child and tell him that he is special. Your child needs to know that he/she is making you proud when he/she manages to accomplish something. This is extremely important for his self-esteem and self-confidence.

– Tell your child often that you believe in him and his abilities. At the same time, do not be over demanding and expect him to do something too difficult.

– Be reasonable in your expectations as this will have an impact on his abilities and self-confidence.

– Tell your child that you trust him when he has reached a certain age when the value of trust can be understood.

– Tell your child that he means the world to you and that your happiness derives from having him being a part of your life. So you could say that you are grateful to have him in your life, and that life would not be the same without him.
