Berg River Resort Review – The Ultimate Getaway For Fun With Kids

I’ve been eyeing the Berg River Resort for years because of the river and all the amazing activities for kids. This year I decided it was time to make a plan to get there and I am so glad we did this past weekend. Read my Berg River Resort review below to see why.

About The Berg River Resort

The Berg River Resort is located in the winelands 60 kms from Cape Town between Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franshhoek. It is right on the Berg River offering a variety of accommodation options including chalet, caravan sites and camping sites. You can also visit as a day visitor with braai and picnic areas.

Facilities include a kiddie pool, 3.5m deep pool, supertube, trampoline, pool table, putt putt, jungle gyms, farmyard, volleyball, canoeing and a cafe,

My Berg River Resort Review

We stayed in one of the chalets and it was perfect for our family. It was a one roomed chalet with a double bed and a bunk bed for the kids. The kitchen comes fully equipped, the only thing we had to bring was our own braai grid. While I do love roughing it a bit it was an absolute pleasure not having to pack too much for this trip.

The chalets are right on the river so the view from your stoep is incredible and so peaceful. Some of the camping sites are also right on the river further along, however most of the camping sites are behind the chalets.

We arrived early Friday evening so we spent the time unpacking and making supper while the kids played outside and they quickly made friends. The first thing we did on Saturday morning was hire two canoes and spent an hour on the river. I was so impressed with the pricing to hire a canoe – only R60 per canoe for an hour and a R100 refundable deposit. I’ve looked into renting canoes in our area and it was about R350 an hour per canoe!

My daughter was quite nervous in the beginning and was not keen on getting into the canoe. Then it took her all of five minutes to kick me out of the canoe to paddle on her own. It was fantastic seeing her confidence get boosted so quickly and how much she loved it.

The water was calm and mostly shallow enough for the kids to stand in, so it was quite safe.

Next on our agenda for my kids was the swimming pool followed by the super tube. My kids love swimming and enjoyed every minute of it. The swimming pool is free to use and the super tube you need to pay for. I liked how they had different options available starting from 5 goes for R20 up to a daily rate which I think was around R150.

On the Sunday morning my son played a quick game of putt putt with a friend that he made in the next door cottage before we headed home. It was only R10 per person to play putt putt.

The Berg River Resort is well run and very neat. It has loads of fun activities to suit everyone in the family. If you have not been there yet I highly recommend that you add it to your travel bucket list – my kids rated this as the best place we have ever been to and they are already harassing me about when we will be going back there again.
