This has been a really tough week behind the scenes with so many things on the go and struggling with sciatica pain. I got hardly any work done and had a very unproductive and frustrating week.
Putting My Back Out & Struggling With Sciatica Pain
I’ve been struggling with sciatica pain for a few weeks, but due to there being so much on the go this term I pushed off sorting it out thinking I would deal with it once the kids go on holiday. Turns out that was a very bad decision and a mistake I won’t make again! On Sunday night I was sorting out some paperwork and as I put the last piece of paper on my bed I put my back out. Yep taken down by a piece of paper. I’m so miffed by that.
It was incredibly painful and I knew right away I was in for some trouble. On Monday morning I contacted Body Stress Release to make an appointment but I could only get on for Wednesday afternoon. It was a long and painful few days. Sitting, lying down or standing for too long hurt. Then again moving also hurts.
I started getting sciatica for the first time while pregnant with my first daughter in 2011 and it has been an issue I have struggled with on and off since then. When it flares up I go for a Body Stress Release session and it is sorted out for a long time to come but it always returns at some stage.
The sciatic nerve branches from the lower back, through your hips and buttocks, and down each leg. Sciatica occurs when that nerve is pinched, often starting during pregnancy when the baby puts pressure there. Sciatica typically affects only one side.
The pain I have is in my left side and it goes from but buttocks all the way down my leg to my foot. While my BSR session helped alleviate the pain I still have a long way to go.

Sanlam #Dear2019Me
Sanlam sent me an invitation to write a letter to my pre-covid-19 self with lessons from the last 18 months for me to reflect on and take those lessons into 2022. As we head into the festive season with the 4th wave looming and the Omicron variant this is the perfect time to be doing this. I will be writing and sharing my letter soonest
Class Parties
Both my kids had their class parties this week and usually I attend everything with my kids. However this year due to my sciatica pain I asked for help and got other moms to take my kids to their class parties. While I really enjoy going with my kids and seeing them have so much fun the thought of sitting for long periods of time in pain surrounded by kids was not my idea of fun.
Zimpli Kids
We have been loving the Zimpli Kids Baff Bombz and I even took a bath bomb for myself this week since I have been needing some serious TLC. I will be writing a review on it as soon as I can sit for long enough to write the post! Things are slow going right now.

Gearing Up For Prize Givings & Break Up Day
Next week Monday and Tuesday I have prize giving ceremonies for my kids and then Wednesday is break up day. I’m both looking forward to and dreading the prize givings. I love attending them and seeing my kids looking for me in the crowd. Last year our prize givings were online – it was great that we could still have prize givings considering the pandemic but I missed having my kids look for me in the crowd so it was sad to be sitting behind a desk watching and knowing my kids were in an empty hall.
All the kids in foundation phase are given certificates but from grade 4 only certain kids get certificates and only those kids and parents are invited to the prize giving. My daughter has been chosen to be in the prize giving, so I am super proud of her and looking forward to it.
The reason for the dread? I’m going to have to sit still with sciatica pain two mornings this week and I know it is not going to be pleasant!
I’m very much looking forward to break up day. It has been a long, hard and disruptive year. I can’t wait to be able to sleep late every morning and not have to rush around with school lifts, worry about exams and of course worry about this 4th wave with kids in school,
I hope you all had a good week and I will catch up with you soon.
Hi Lynne
I am so sorry to hear about your sciatica pain.
I honestly feel for you, as i am suffering from the same.
What a pity that i am not based in your area.
Please take great care of yourself.
