Cleaning Hacks That Will Change Your Life

Stockings Are The Key To Out-of-reach Places

Some areas of our homes are difficult to dust and clean properly because we just can’t reach them. This is properly resolved by wrapping stockings around your broom handle and running it along those areas. The static will draw all the dust from the hard-to-reach places.

Easy Blender Cleaning Tip

Pour soapy water into your blender, food processor, or juicer and blend on high to get your equipment squeaky clean.

Baking Soda In The Oven

Cleaning your oven can be such a pain… Cut down on the elbow grease by coating the racks and interior with a paste created by mixing baking soda with water. Allow to sit overnight and then wipe off with vinegar.

Lint Rollers Don’t Just Work On Clothes

Use a good ol’ fashioned lint roller that can be found in a variety of shops to wipe down surfaces that are difficult to clean, like lampshades. This hack also works particularly well with surfaces covered in pet hair.

Remove Scorch Marks From Your Iron

There’s nothing worse than ironing your best work shirt only to stain it with a scorch mark on your iron. The solution is to run your hot iron over salt, which will stick to these marks and easily wipe off when your iron cools down.

Get Rid Of That Stinky Fridge Smell

We’ll bet there are more than a few of you who will be grateful to find this tip. All it takes is a few scoops of new or used coffee grounds into a bowl, which you place on the top shelf of your fridge to soak up all odours. It’s recommended that you replace the bowl every 6 weeks.

Another Clever Baking Soda Hack

This you can use within the hour and it works a treat. Sprinkle baking soda liberally all over your carpets and rugs, leave for an hour, and then vacuum it all up.

A Sparkly Clean Microwave At Last

Did you know that you can fill a bowl with white vinegar, place it in the middle of the microwave, and run it for 5 minutes? Yes, it makes it really easy to wipe down all the marks and stains with a paper towel.

Grease Stains Be Gone

You can get rid of grease stains with this simple concoction. Mix enough cornstarch with water to make a paste and apply to oil or grease spots on your furniture. Leave the paste on overnight, clean off, and enjoy the sweet, sweet absence of grease.

There’s 1 final cleaning hack that ties in with your home contents insurance. Bear with us, because this could be super important. Basically, part of making sure that your home contents insurance will actually pay properly when you claim for theft or damage is by ensuring that your policy is up to date. So, when you’re cleaning each room, we suggest that you make a few notes on your phone about any new items of value that you’ve added as well as any that you’ve gotten rid of. Then you can update this with your insurer and make sure you’re paying the correct amount for your insurance.

Of course, if you don’t have an affordable home contents insurance policy then creating this inventory will be really useful when you decide to get cover. Once you’ve got your inventory (or even beforehand) click here to look at this comprehensive home cover or this less expensive ‘fire and fury’ option (this covers everything except theft) from a leading insurer in South Africa. You can even WhatsApp 0860 50 50 50 and a friendly consultant will talk you through your options.

Never heard of putting a stoking over a broom for hard to reach dust areas def going to give it a try, also like the oven cleaner as i find the ones you buy at the store so strong and never feel confident to cook after in the oven, so natural cleaning product for oven sounds better

  3. Will definitely try this cornstarch and water
