I’m a huge fan of natural remedies and products that are all natural so I was incredibly excited to try out the range of products that African Secret sent to me. I was asked what are some of the things that I struggle with and they made up a special hamper just for me!

I love the fact that African Secret is a South African business founded by Stacey Jane Smith. I really feel that it is important for us moms and women to support each other in business. Women face so many challenges, especially when we head into the business world. In addition to the standard challenges, we have been faced with even more difficulties since the beginning of 2020 with the pandemic having a devastating impact on women.
Tea Tree Cream
I love anything with tea tree – it reminds me of growing up and for so many ailments we had my mother’s solution was tea tree oil. When I opened the box from African Secret this was the gem that jumped out at me because I could see the incredible value in this cream before I even opened it.
It did not disappoint my high expectations at all, in fact it was even better than I thought it would be. I’ve been using it for my feet because I am prone to getting dry, cracked heels. I’ve also been using it for my elbows that get dry. My son gets dry skin around his nose if I don’t keep it nicely moisturised, so any sign of his skin not looking good out comes the tea tree cream, just like my mother used to do for me as a child.
There are so many uses for this tea tree cream including ezcema, insect bites, skin irritations, sunburn rashes, razor burn and grazes. It is has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and anti-septic properties, making it not only a fantastic beauty product but also an essential item for your medical aid kit.
If you have never heard of the benefits of tea tree oil do yourself a favour and try this tea tree oil cream out!
Relaxing Oil Aromatherapy
This relaxing oil aromatherapy from African Secrets is another gem. It has lavender oil (another of my favourite natural remedies), sweet almond oil, rose geranium and evening primrose oil.
This oil is high in Vitamin E and offers anti-aging benefits as well as being antioxidant, pain relieving and helps with skin irritations.
However none of the above are why I am in love with this oil. I am an alcoholic and drug addict in recovery with bipolar disorder and I suffer from insomnia. Now that I am over 40 years old I am also struggling with migraines every month. My mental health has not been in the best state since the start of the pandemic and my stress levels have been through the roof.
This oil has been a life saver for me. Due to the fact that I am an addict I can’t use anything other than paracetamol, when that does not work then I need to look at natural remedies. Paracetamol does nothing for my migraines but this oil works wonders.
When I feel a migraine coming on I lie down and massage this oil into my temples. It has not failed me yet.
My mood stabiliser medication for my bipolar disorder used to help me to sleep well, but due to all the additional stresses in the last year I have found that my sleep has not been good at all even with my meds.
If I work late at night on my laptop I find it incredibly difficult to unwind and have a good night’s sleep. While there was a long period of time where I could get away with not working at night the last year I have had to often work late into the night again and this has been very problematic for my sleep health. I’ve been adding this relaxing oil to my bath and it has made a significant difference, especially on the night’s when I have to work late at night.
**Note of caution – not advisable for use while pregnant or for people with nut allergies**
Pain Relief Aromatherapy
The pain relief aromatherapy is another great product by African Secret. The ingredients are peppermint, sweet almond oil, rosemary and black pepper. It is made to relieve aches and pains. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and analgesic properties to increase blood and lymph circulation. It soothes aching, tired and overworked muscles.
I’ve made good use of this oil to massage into my neck and shoulders as well as my lower back. Due to working at a desk I get a lot of shoulder and neck strain. I also find that when I am under emotional stress (hello lockdown) I feel it very physically in my body. When I feel unwell or my body is under strain I can almost always trace it back to emotions. This is felt very much in my neck and shoulders too so this has become a big problem area of pain for me the last few months.
I had to start going back for Body Stress Release sessions towards the end of last year to help resolve this.
I also have on and off sciatica that bothers me. I feel it as lower back pain and shooting pains that start in my bottom and shoot down my leg.
Since making regular use of the pain relief oil from African Secret I have not had any further issues with sciatica and my neck and shoulder pain has decrease to a manageable level.
**Note of caution – not advisable for use while pregnant or for people with nut allergies**
Cuticle Oil
This is the product that surprised me the most out of all the products. I am so self conscious about my hands and fingers. My hands are not the prettiest, I would love to have long, straight fingers but my fingers are short, stubby and skew. On top of that I have been a nail biter since I was a young child.
Before the pandemic hit I had been doing quite well with not biting my nails too much but since it started I went backwards with all the progress I had made.
Since using this cuticle oil I have started to make some good progress with my mail biting problem. The combination of daily self-care and the amazing product has really helped me to mindful of my nails and to strengthen, repair and moisturise my nails and cuticles.
The cuticle oil is 100% natural, with sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil, lavender essential oil and jojoba oil. It is so easy to apply with the rollerball.
I see that the cuticle oil available on the African Secret website is a new Marula Cuticle Oil with marula seed oil and rosehip seed oil, I’m sure it is also a fantastic product that does the job just as well if not better.
If your nails are not in the best shape then I highly recommend that you buy some of their cuticle oil.
Waterless Hand & Surface Sanitiser
The hand and surface sanitser is lovely, I keep it on my work desk at home to sanitise after dropping my kids at school when I start work. I sanitise my hands, laptop, desk and phone at the beginning of my work morning so I know that everything is safe.
I love the Lemon Tea Tree scent that keeps everything smelling fresh, as well as sanitary. It is non-sticky so lovely to use on my hands. For sanitizing my work area I spray it on a cloth then wipe down all the surfaces.
It is 70% alcohol and kills 99.9% of germs.
Rooibos All-In-One Wash
One of the first things I like to do with all creams, lotions, potions and washes is to smell them. The smell makes a big first impression on me before I use the product and this all in one wash smells amazing, so fresh and vibrant.
I love Rooibos products, as you will know if you read my review of the facial cleansing range that I use, and this also contains coconut oil which is another favourite ingredient I love.
This wash lathers up beautifully and leaves me feeling fresh, clean and smelling good. I love that my kids can use it too and I can wash them from head to toe using it which means I don’t have to get loads of different products. Since it is hypo-allergic it is suitable for sensitive skin and I am comfortable using it on my kids.
It is available in 500ml, 250ml and 100ml (perfect for traveling).
My Final Verdict For African Secret Products
I’m totally in love with African Secret, their products are high quality and made from some of my favourite ingredients such as tea tree oil, lavender oil, rooibos and coconut oil.
The aromatherapy oils have been an absolute pleasure, offering exactly the right blends needed to ease my sleep problems, reduce stress levels and soothe pain.
I’ve taken a look at some of the other products available on the African Secret website and they look amazing, two of the things that really caught my eye were the PMS Relief Oil and the Energising Body Oil,
If you are a fan of natural remedies and essential oils do yourself a favour and head on over to have a look at their store.

This sounds like a fantastic brand, I am definitely going to give it a try.
My face is prone to pimples. I usually get breakouts when I’m home in Limpopo due to water and weather. As a result I often struggle to remove the dark marks that these pimples leave on my face. I want to know if these products can help my face with eliminating the pimples and dark marks.
Hi Mbavhalelo – African Secret does have an acne treatment product which will help with pimples – you can check it out here.
I think I should try this product, my face is such a mess😭
This is always great to see.So much of what we use on or for our bodies is undisclosed. Also we don’t realise the nasties found in some products.
I want to try the tea tree cream. Ever since I gave birth my skin is super super dry and the lotion I’m using isn’t helping at all. Thanks for this review Lynne
Isn’t it crazy the effect that being pregnant and giving birth has on us? I also found so many crazy changes after giving birth. This cream is superb Cynthia, I am sure that it will make a massive difference.

It is a pleasure Zizipho 🙂
I tend to have dry skin whenever I use oils on my skin. However this I would try. Are the ones to prevent my skin from being dry.
I love that the hamper was made up just for you. I also love natural remedies and prefer trying the natural ways before doctors and tablets. I also definitely want to give essential oils a go
It sounds like a wonderful product I am familiar with tea tree oil but would like to try the others as well. Thank you for sharing
