Just when you thought Hyde Park Corner was as stylishly fabulous as shopping could get, it just got even better with more chic new stores and even a virtual art fair which collectively offer shoppers more ways to escape the ordinary and discover extraordinary experiences… a whole lot more!
What started as a patisserie and light meal option quickly evolved into a fully-fledged European style café serving French inspired dishes with Middle Eastern flavours. And now patisserie extraordinaire Just Teddy has brought kitchen theatre alongside their existing Hyde Park Corner store with the addition of Maison du Petit Four (House of the Petit Four). This new showcase kitchen features all things macaron and fondant by lifting the curtain on their trade secrets and allowing customers an inside look at how these delicately delicious treats are brought to life. The Maison du Petit Four team is led by Head Baker, Teddy, who was a BBC Great South African Bake-Off finalist. Teddy’s wife Natasha ensures that business behind the scenes is taken care of, daughter Jordyne takes on the role of Head Pâtissier; and son Jeff is the ‘Bread Narco’ leading the kitchen team. Whether you’re in the mood for a Croque Monsieur, or an extravagant three-tiered High Tea, Just Teddy’s inimitable flavour, class and passion are evident in every morsel. Jeff has also been hinting at the possibility of launching Masterclass baking and breadmaking workshops in the new year, so watch this space…
Three sisters have combined a common passion for fashion by creating a platform for their favourite African designers – Diane Paris, Taibo Bacar and David Tlale – featuring them all in a new Hyde Park Corner store, The Mansion. This store is not just about the clothes but rather the story behind these talented designers with colourful South African roots who have transformed their creativity into pieces which embody culture and originality. Walking into The Mansion can be equated to walking into an art gallery where each uniquely named piece tells a story illustrating the creativity behind its design, cut and silhouette. The Mansion isn’t just a fashion boutique, it is a world of different cultures coming together in one store where shoppers will find Africa’s best.
FNB Art Joburg has pivoted to present a reimagined 13th edition of the FNB Art Fair online. This year’s fair is a celebration of the marriage between technology and art. For those who feel they are missing out on walking through an exhibition space to experience art in person, FNB Art Joburg and Hyde Park Corner have partnered to bring the art to life in the shopping centre’s Centre Court. Through a series of Augmented Reality placements, art lovers can walk through the shopping centre and bring the fair to life through their cellphones. This shift has given the team time to curate a collection that will give art lovers access to an experience that captures the best parts of a live showcase while respecting the current COVID-19 limitations The newly imagined FNB Art Joburg 2020 edition will include digital opportunities for enthusiasts to indulge in guided tours of the galleries, panel discussions with artists and curators as well as interactive sessions where they can engage with artists and other attendees – all via technology and social media. Everyone is invited to join in the fair by logging on to experience a world class selection of art from Friday, 6 November until Wednesday, 18 November.
