Many moms dream of being able to work from home and make an income online while being able to look after their families. One career that has been made possible in recent years is being an online influencer and this is a career that is possible to start up with little to no cost and in your spare time.
What Does It Mean To Be An Online Influencer?
An online influencer is someone that has an online following and can influence others to act upon their recommendations. This has become a very popular way for brands to get their products and services in front of the right audience. It is also a fantastic way for moms to make an income online in their own time and around their family commitments.
Influencer campaigns make up a large part of my income as a blogger and it can be a lot of fun. It is also fantastic receiving free products on a regular basis to try out and share about.
How Can You Become An Online Influencer?
Becoming an online influencer is not too difficult to do, however it does take some effort and there are specific things you should do to achieve this. Here are the things that you need to do to become an online influencer.
Select Your Niche
The very first step on your path to becoming an influencer is deciding on your niche, It must be something that you are knowledgeable about and something that you are passionate about. You will need to be able to create content consistently and regularly. You can choose a few interests, however it is important that your niche is not too broad and that your interests are closely related so that the content you create will be of interest to your audience.
Your niche could be anything from food and recipes, to breastfeeding, beauty, fitness, budget shopping, mental health, home decor or gardening. Take some time to find something that excites you.
Choose Your Platforms
The next step is to choose the platforms where you will share your content. While there are many platforms available it can be tricky to manage a lot of channels and chances are you will only shine in one or two of them. You can be a social media influencer and/ or you can also have a blog. Having a blog too is a fantastic option since there are many more ways to monetize your blog over and above being an influencer.
You will either need to optimise your profiles or you will need to create new ones. For example if you are on Facebook you will need to create a Facebook page. If you are on Instagram or Twitter make sure that your profile is a business account. This will give you a lot more options and make your profile more appealing to brands. You will also have access to analytics and advertising.
Make sure that your profiles are optimised by adding a clear profile picture and cover photo. Make sure your bio is engaging and includes all your relevant information.
Understand Your Audience
It is essential to know who your target audience is so that you can create a strong connection with them and build a good following. Pay careful attention to the analytics of your audience to understand their interests and demographics. Your analytics will provide you with plenty of information such as the age, gender, location, and interests of your followers.
Post Content Regularly And Consistently
Create content that your audience can relate to and engage with. It is essential to engage back with your audience to build fan loyalty.
Some influencers choose to stick to creating content around their niche only and others choose to also add in posts about their personal lives. This is up to you and whatever you feel comfortable with.
Although you won’t be getting paid campaigns in the beginning always keep in mind that is your end goal and keep all your content focused on your niche and preparing to be an influencer.
Posting content regularly and consistently is key. Social media platforms have algorithms that usually give preference to the accounts that post on a regular basis, so keep this in mind and come up with a posting schedule that works for you.
Be Authentic And Engage With Your Audience
It is vitally important to be authentic as a blogger and to engage with your audience. Being authentic at all times is what will create trust with your audience and trust is essential to becoming an influencer. People take recommendations from the people that they trust.
When your followers engage with you make sure to engage back with them so that they feel seen and heard. The more engagement that you have on your social media channels and website the more appealing it will be for brands to work with you.
Working With Brands
Once you have followed all the above steps and you have a following online it is time to start working with brands. Don’t worry if your following is small, as long as you have a following you will be good to go. Companies are eager to work with micro bloggers as well as bloggers that have a large following.
There are lots of platforms to join that connect influencers with brands so that is a great place to start. You can also reach out to brands to collaborate with them directly.
Another very effective plan is to start tagging the brands you love when you use them. This will get you noticed and over time brands may contact you directly to collaborate with you.
Over time you will be able to build your reputation as an online influencer.
Thank you for this article I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot
I have always wanted to have my voice heard if not my ideas I have.a lot is not being said about premature birth how to handle it whether first time or not
I feel mommies need a place to talk and learn about issues associated with premature birth and how to cope with it
Maybe one day I will have some courage to start my own blog and share my experiences with other moms😊😊😊
Thank you Lynne for your posts they teach us new things everyday
It is a pleasure Sandra and yes there is not much said about premature birth. I got very freaked out about it towards the end of my first pregnancy since a close friend and I were pregnant at the same time and we should have given birth within two weeks of each other…. and when we were around 7 months pregnant we were supposed to go shopping for baby things but I could not get hold of her. Only to go onto Facebook later that morning and see an update that she had just given birth! Her baby was in the NICU for a few weeks and it was so hard for her. She was not ready and she could not manage to breastfeed due to not being able to nurse and struggling with expressing. Everything was fine but it was a shocker for all of us.
Wow I love this article. I really want to become an online influencer more with baby products and I want to get my baby into modeling just havs ent had the time to do the registration process yet or maybe I have put it off for too long. These tips are great Lynne. Thank you.
