I’m thrilled to be part of BIC’s ‘Buy a Pen Donate a Pen’ initiative, which highlights how one small action can make a big difference. As part of this campaign, BIC sent me an incredible back-to-school hamper, and I had the privilege of nominating someone to also receive one.
I chose Monique Strauss, a brave and inspiring individual who has been battling cancer. This journey has placed a significant financial strain on her family, so contributing to her children’s back-to-school needs felt like the perfect way to lend a helping hand.
This initiative aligns perfectly with BIC’s ongoing efforts to support education in South Africa, reminding us all that positive change often starts with one thoughtful gesture.
‘Change Starts with One’ is all about one action, person or step that can literally change your life. An individual who believes in you, a teacher that supports you, an organisation that funds you, a parent that encourages you.
South Africa has an extremely high school dropout rate – more than 41% of children who start school don’t finish matric. A lack of resources is a major contributor to this problem.
Since 2012, BIC South Africa has been making a meaningful impact through its nationwide initiative, Buy a Pen Donate a Pen. Over the years, this campaign has resulted in the donation of more than 16 million writing tools to students in need.
The concept is simple but powerful: for every pen purchased, BIC donates one to support learners who lack essential stationery. Each year, a million pens are distributed to schools across the country, thanks to this initiative.
Choose BIC back-to-school essentials this January, which are available from leading retail outlets nationally, including Pick ‘n Pay, Checkers, Spar and TakeAlot.
Choose specially marked BIC products at your favourite retailer and BIC will donate a pen for every BIC pen purchased. You’ll be buying a great quality pen at an affordable price. At the same time, you’re making it possible for BIC to provide crucial resources to children across the country.
Looking ahead to 2025, BIC will continue its commitment by donating pens to more than 400 schools. These donations will be distributed during BIC’s annual roadshows, which run from March to June, bringing essential stationery to students nationwide.
Great initiative you need tools to do your work and children needs pens to finish their education. We can help them become future leaders by just donating a pen.
