We went away for the weekend in the October school holidays to Suikerbossie Guest Farm to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday, and I have only found the time to write my Suikerbossie Guest Farm review now. If you are looking for a family orientated venue that offers a number of accommodation this is a fantastic place to go.
About Suikerbossie Guest Farm
Suikerbossie Guest Farm is a working citrus farm in the Cederberg Mountains between Citrusdal and Ceres. It is a first generation farm that has been in the Hanekom family since 1767.
Activities include hiking, biking, 4×4 trails, fishing (catch and release only), bushman paintings, and water activities. You can also hire the venue for weddings.
There are a number of accommodation options including camping, glamping, and cabins.
My Suikerbossie Guest Farm Review
We booked one glamping campsite for my family, my sister, and her girlfriend and my parents stayed in Alison’s cabin just above our camping site.
Alison’s cabin is a one room cabin with an undercover stoep. Our camping site was full grass (not like some campsites where you have only sand) and a shaded area made with shade cloth. It was close an ablution block that was clean and functional.
Shortly upon arrival we were asked if we would like roosterkoek and fresh farm orange juice the next day (and it was divine). The staff were friendly and helpful.
Since we arrived after dark we had to wait until morning to check out the set up and it was amazing to wake up to the beautiful surroundings. Our site was close to the river and the mountains surrounding us were stunning. My husband and I took a morning walk to explore.
When we got back to the site the staff set up a water slide on the grass for all the children which went down a treat for my kids. We were also offered a 2 hour tractor ride into the mountains to see the bushmen paintings. We would have loved to go but since this was a family get together to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday we declined, although if we go again this is something I would love to join.
We had a fantastic weekend spending time as a family, swimming, reading, walking, and braaing.
One thing that really stood out is that all the other guests were amazing, the vibe was amazing. It was all families spending quality time together. The words that comes to mind are tranquil and wholesome. There is a very strict policy of no music or noise, and no littering. Since it is a farm that has no refuse removal you have to take your own rubbish back with you, however there are compost bins to add your food waste to.
This is a venue we definitely want to return to. Next time we go we would like to get a site right on the river. If you are looking for a place to go with your family I highly recommend checking out Suikerbossie Guest Farm. It definitely goes down as one of our favourite weekend getaways to date.
I hope you’ve found my Suikerbossie Guest Farm review helpful.
