If you’re thinking about getting a home spa, but are having second thoughts over it as a luxurious and not indispensable item of your household, consider its numerous health benefits. It is not just a whimsical purchase, it can actually be really beneficial for your health, especially if you problems with chronic pain and rheumatoid arthritis.
Or if you are under a lot of stress in general, have sleeping problems, or are simply looking for a way to improve the quality of your life. So here are a few serious reasons why you should opt for buying a home spa and enjoy all the benefits of hot tubs.
Stress Reduction
The water of around 100°F temperature immediately takes a huge load of off your heart as your body mass is reduced by buoyancy; your blood vessels dilate and your blood pressure reduces. All this creates a relaxing effect, similar to that of a relaxing massage. Hot water improves your circulation and enhances the production of some of the so-called happiness hormones, endorphins, which help reduce stress and make your body feel good. Also, there’s the hydro-therapy effect which helps relieve the tension in your muscles as the jets gently massage you and relieve the stiffness in the six body areas – feet, thighs, lower-back, upper back, shoulders, and neck.
So a dip in your hot tub gives you an accumulated effect of a hot bath and a relaxing massage, any time you wish for it, for as long as you wish.
Sleep Quality Improvement
This is a logical consequence of the stress relief effect, and we all know how important good sleep is for your overall health. The positive effect of hot tubs on your night’s rest is also supported by very specific scientific facts. Namely, in the hot tub your blood pressure decreases and your core temperature increases. Once you get out of the tub, the body temperature drops, just like it does when you are in deep sleep. The hot tub thus literally prepares your body for a good night’s rest, putting it in a very similar state.
So to achieve the maximum effect the best advice is to have a half-an-hour bath some hour and a half before going to bed. This will put your body in a prefect state for falling asleep, by reducing your blood pressure, body temperature, stress levels and increasing the endorphins level, as already mentioned.
Pain Relief
Hot water massage has been recognized as a great pain reliever by various sports and medical associations. It is especially beneficial in relieving the arthritis pain. It allows the muscles and joints to relax which makes different motions and exercises easier to perform. So the accumulated effect of the high water temperature, massage and buoyancy makes the needed exercises more effective, less painful and easier.
When you have a hot tub at home, at your disposal any time you wish, it can only maximize the effect and enhance the recovery and healing, or at least keep the pain at bay and enable you to perform all the motions as normally as possible.
Enhanced Healing
As already mentioned, hot tub improves your circulation, thus increasing the level of oxygen carried by the blood to the wounded spot. What’s more, this assists the antibody and white blood cells production and expelling the toxins, which helps in creating the new tissue and strengthening your immune system. What’s more, this expelling of toxins also helps your skin to remain clean, and the jet massage removes all the dead cells, leaving your skin smooth, soft and healthy.
The massage effect also prevents the lactic acid from piling up in your muscles and reduces the muscle pain and stiffness. The buildup of lactic acid in your muscles is the primary source of post exercise soreness, which makes the hot tub almost indispensable for athletes and people who exercise often.
If you are looking for a great way to relax and help you feel better, you can’t go wrong with a hot tub. It is a more affordable option than a pool, and the maintenance cost and frequency are significantly lower as well. What’s more, the therapeutic and relaxing properties of a hot tub can never be matched by a swimming pool.
At the moment, a hot tub is sadly not within our budget, but I must say that you make very convincing arguments in favour of getting one! I love the idea of a soothing warm bath and how it paves the way for a good night’s sleep, something that moms usually have as a top priority but often struggle to obtain, especially as night time can become the perfect time for worrying about all the little things that bothered one during the day or googling those niggling symptoms! It does help to affirm for me, though, that I am making the right decision in exploring options, such as joining the nearby gym, so that our family is able to spend time together in the water.
This is an amazing article, very informative.
Not everybody is fortunate enough to have a hot tub in their homes, however these are easily accessible at gyms.
For hygiene purposes I doubt that usage of such hot tubs could be beneficial to your health.
A communal facility is not a hundred percent, the following are a few examples I came across after a bit of research:
• Hot tub rash
• Legionnaires ‘Disease
• Irritation from bodily fluids
• Shigellosis
• Illnesses from parasites
• Scalding and burns
• Pregnancy risks
• Drop in blood pressure
As always where there are positive factors there will always a few negatives.
This is something that we can research a bit more on.
Yes I would not recommend being in a hot tub when pregnant @ron03 and yes a communal hot tub does not sound very appealing to me at all. My grandmother had a hot tub at their home and we loved using it. It was on their balcony and their house was on the mountain overlooking the ocean – it was such a luxury treat to go and spend some time there! The hot tub came with the house but eventually it started giving them constant problems with the mechanics and it was costing them a fortune to repair and maintain so they removed it.
