It has been such an honour to have Lauren Kinghorn from Inspiring Mompreneurs join me live on my Facebook page today. Lauren and I met a few years ago on an amazing blogging platform we both joined to learn how to blog and make money online and we are firm friends to this day. We regularly collaborate on projects, such as our blogging community for women,  and share ideas and new things we have learned.

6 Amazing Ways For Moms To Make Money From Home

1. Blogging

Yes I know I keep bringing up blogging, but that’s what I do and that’s what I love so it is always going to be first on my list when it comes to ways to make money from home.

What I love about blogging is that I can literally go in any direction I want and I can include any of the below items into my blogging to make money. In fact I will always recommend that you start your own blog if you are opening your own business, no matter where you work from and what line of work you go into. It will always work in your favour.

We are both still members there and they offer the best when it comes to giving everything you need when it comes to blogging – training, tools and support. You don’t have to know a thing – they will take you by the hand and teach you while setting up your business at the same time. They focus mainly on affiliate marketing (explained below) however you can take that training and apply it to any of the below ways to make money from home.

2. Create Digital Products

Creating courses, writing e-books, printables (recipes, calendars, shopping lists, wedding planning checklists… you name it), business templates, apps and more is a fantastic way to make money from home.

You can make market them and sell them on your own website or through social media, however there are also plenty of websites that you can join that will help you to create your products and to sell them.

There are so many websites for creating and selling courses online, however you will need to do your research into which ones are reputable. The top 2 that I can recommend to launch your first courses are Udemy and Skillshare, since they have a great audience for you already so you won’t have to promote your own course.

There are more fantastic places to create courses if you already have an audience or an email list such as Teachable, Thinkific, Podia and Kajabi.

If you want to write and publish books have a look at Amazon Self Publishing which is a great choice because they have such a wide audience. You can also try SmashWords which is where I published an ebook about my addiction. There are plenty of options when it comes to creating and selling e-books so once again do your research and find a platform that suits what you are after.

3. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money, especially if you are the type of person that likes to make recommendations to others. The best way to make use of affiliate marketing is by having your own website, but you can also do it through social media, via email and other communication methods such as whatsapp.

Many companies are now making use of an affiliate program to market their products. Instead of having to hire sales reps they create an affiliate program which you can apply to and if you are accepted you can promote that company’s products and if you make any sales through the unique links provided to you then you earn commission.

One of the companies that I recommend you give a go is 4 A Kid – they are a reputable online store in South Africa that sell products for babies, toddlers and children. Perfectly suited for moms in South Africa to recommend to their friends. Plus Ally from 4 A Kid sends out great newsletters to her affiliates sharing tips on how to market the products. What I love is that almost every single tool and company that I deal with online has an affiliate program, so many of the links within this post are affiliate links and I may earn an income if you click and sign up.

4. Selling Physical Products

There are so many physical products that you can sell and different ways to go about it.

There are many moms I know that offer baking services for birthdays and parties, or that make party platters or even cook homemade dinners for other moms that are too tired or busy to get to it. Some moms make sandwiches and lunches and sell them to staff in local businesses.

If you can knit, sew or crochet you can make clothing or crafts from home to sell and promote them on social media and/ or do craft markets.

If you are arty or you are able to create digital designs on a program such as Canva you can take advantage of print on demand stores such as Redbubble, which Lauren is just loving right now – check out her post 7 Ways To Make Money Online As An Artist On Redbubble, Printful, Printify, Society6 and Zazzle.

If you don’t want to have the worry about creating your own products you can also become an agent for a well known product such as Therific Naturals – don’t we all just love Kiddy-Calm products? When I had my online store and I opened a little walk in store in Langebaan the Kiddy-Calm sold like hotcakes so it is a great product to sell. You can sign up here to be an agent.

There are plenty of other companies you can also sign up to such as Honey Jewellery, Sh’zen and Tupperware, however a lot of them ask for a sign up fee and you may have to purchase marketing materials too. I sold Honey Jewellery for a while many years ago and it was lots of fun plus quite easy to sell.

5. Sell Your Services

We may “just” be stay at home moms but we have skills ladies! There is nothing stopping us from making use of these skills from home, especially now with the way things have gone online.

It is very possible to market your services through word of mouth and online so put the word out there. There are also some amazing platforms for marketing digital services. The beauty of using these services is that you can add the services you offer and very often not even need to promote yourself there since there are buyers on those websites looking for those services.

Here are some ideas for services you can sell:

• virtual assistant
• photography
• graphic design

• typing and transcription
• hair and beauty
• create digital products
• teaching English, or any other extra lessons including music, arts, crafts and sport

6. Take Surveys and User Testing

Now I know lots of people swear that you can make $100’s in a day doing online surveys and tasks… let’s just get this out of the way right now. That is simply not the case at all. Those are people trying to promote doing online surveys so that you sign up and do all the hard work while they earn. There are also lots of people promoting scam opportunities. So please be very careful signing up anywhere to do online surveys.

However I have had some nice experiences doing online surveys and also doing user testing tasks. While you are not ever going to get rich doing this sort of thing it does bring in a little extra every now and then.

User testing is when you get paid to test things online such as websites and apps.

In fact I think Lauren’s first ever income online was from my referral to a once off Userlytics offer which took about 20 minutes and paid out $50. Not bad when you convert that to ZAR.

The normal rates are lower than that, but every now and then there is a better paid one.

While you won’t get rich doing online surveys, or even make a full time income through them you can make a little bit of money over a period in your spare time and it is always welcome to have a little bit of extra money.

I’ve made over $1000 through Ysense (previously known as Clixsense) and I earn a little bit each money now through affiliate marketing and I barely even log in except to check my balance every now and then. You can click here to join Ysense.

A fantastic survey company to join in South Africa is Answered Insight – they don’t have a lot of surveys on offer but the ones that they do send are usually well suited to you so that you usually qualify for the ones they send out which makes them a cut above the rest when it comes to being kicked out!

**UPDATE To Answered Insight**

They have been having tech problems for the last year with their website and are apparently in the process of building a new website. Members can’t see their balances or cash out which is quite frustrating, in addition to this they are not responding to any emails or Facebook messages yet they are still sending email invites for members to do surveys? I no longer recommend Answered Insight.
