It may be cold outside but, inside, firecrackers are about to go off! That’s because from Saturday, 26th of June, the iconic Looney Tunes is back in a brand-new show starring legendary cartoon favourites such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and many other beloved characters. If you are wondering, “what’s up?” then wonder no more! This brand-new show brings the audience new, fast-paced, and gag-driven situations in a familiar setting with classic pairings.
For over six decades, the manic and hilarious world of Looney Tunes dominated Saturday morning cartoons, and Boomerang is bringing all your favourite misadventures back in this brand-new animated show! In this updated version, Taz takes on Bugs Bunny in a Roman coliseum; Daffy and Porky continue their misadventures from skydiving to solving the mystery of Porky’s missing pants; fan-favourites Sylvester and Tweety, along with Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner, also come along for the ride in these all-new animated episodes.
The launch of the new Looney Tunes will kickstart great programming because Boomerang’s young viewers will be treated to a walk down memory lane with the Space Jam (1996) movie being broadcast on Saturday, 10th of July, one week ahead of the 16th of July premiere of the new live-action/animated sports comedy film, Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021), in South African theatres. The original Space Jam follows Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes group’s abduction of Michael Jordan after his retirement, after which he asks him to play a match to defeat the Nerdlucks, a criminal alien group led by Mister Swackhammer.
The sequel features basketball champion and global icon LeBron James: When the star and his youngest son Dom – who dreams of being a video game developer rather than follow his father’s footsteps – find themselves trapped in Serververse, a virtual space ruled by a rogue A.I. named Al-G Rhythm, LeBron must save his son and get them home safely by leading Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to win a basketball match against Al-G’s digitized champions on the court, the Goon Squad: a team of powered-up virtual avatars of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before.
Looney Tunes Cartoons is the series adults have been waiting for to introduce to their kids, so there’s plenty of comic mayhem and mishaps for everyone this June. Tune in to Boomerang on DStv channel 302 for your share of the fun!
