Nominee 8 – The Next Generation of Brave: Meet Karabo Seema Nursing Student Karabo Seema from the SG Lourens Nursing College in Pretoria

This nursing student is an advocate for human rights.

Karabo Seema is a 4th year nursing student at the SG Lourens Nursing College in Pretoria. Besides being very passionate about her profession, Karabo is an advocate for human rights and a strong voice for the emancipation of women and marginalised communities.”

I am passionate about the profession I am in because it allows me to change and advocate for the people I render service to,” Karabo says. “Nursing allows me to educate people and raise awareness in society on various health issues and this helps to eradicate the fear and stigma of being judged when accessing healthcare services.”

Karabo was paired with mentor Kagiso Tukisi, a Midwifery and Neonatal Care Lecturer at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. “I have trained many nurses in my life and with Karabo I can see she’s a caring person,” he says. “You cannot be taught how to care – it needs to be something that is intrinsic.”
