Penguin walk Simonstown

Penguin Walk from Seaforth to Boulders – Simonstown

When I took my kids to Cape Town at the start of the June/ July holidays I decided to spend a day in Simonstown and the first thing I took them to see was the penguins. My kids love walking, being outdoors and they love all animals. I was sure that they would love seeing the penguins in Simonstown. They have seen real penguins before but that was at the Aquarium and I wanted them to experience this too.

You can pay to go to Boulders Beach and walk along to see the penguins or you can walk for free between Seaforth Beach and Boulders Beach. We chose to go for the free walk and it was lovely. From the parking lot at Seaforth Beach you need to walk along the road until you get to the start of the wooden walkway that takes you past the penguin colony all the way to Boulders Beach. If you start at Boulders Beach the walk starts right next to the ticket office to enter Boulders Beach.

My kids loved spotting the penguins and got so excited when they saw one penguin sitting on an egg right next to the fence. My kids asked loads of questions and enjoyed being outdoors and the lovely views. The walk is the perfect length with young kids, not too long that they get too tired and not to quick either.

If you and your kids haven’t been on this walk before and you find yourselves in Simonstown then I highly recommend you visit.

It was a great way for us to start our day out in Simonstown and the physical exercise got us really hungry and ready for a lovely and well deserved breakfast at Fran’s Place in Jubilee Square.
