What a weird year 2020 was and as the clock struck 12 on 31 December, there was a very real part of many of us that felt, like Cinderella and her pumpkin carriage, that things would magically go back to normal. Sadly, that is far from reality, however, we do need to try and establish a new normal, especially for our little ones as they prepare to brave the start of another year of inconsistent school days and mask wearing outings. But where to begin…
School Lunch boxes! ☺ As a child, there are very few things that bring as much joy as the feeling of opening up your lunchbox to see what has been packed for that day. Here are a few ideas for parents when packing a lunchbox of dreams.☺
As with most things, balance and moderation are key. The last thing a teacher wants is your child bouncing off the walls because they got an 11am lunch filled with sugary treats. It is possible to make your child’s snack delicious and exciting without it being packed full of sugar and tartrazine.
A happy formula is: 1 fruit, 2 veg, a healthy protein, a whole grain, a dairy item and a little healthy treat.
- Strawberries or some watermelon
- Carrot sticks and baby tomatoes
- Humus or a hardboiled egg
- A full fat greek yogurt or some cheese (to go on the crackers)
- A packet of Eat Real Veggie Straws
Last but not least:
- a little note from mom or dad,
- a Dr Seuss quote
- or even a little sticky note with a heart on it is bound to bring a smile to your little one’s face as they get used to this “new normal”.
