I was talking to my aunt the other day and she was telling me how quiet her house is now her boys have left. Then I quickly went into dream land and thought how nice that would be, the silence to read a book and the joys of going to the toilet with the whole household needing to consult with me at that moment.
Then her next comment snapped me back to reality and she told me with a bit of sadness in her voice that she misses the noise of her boys. Then I took the time to appreciate this time in our lives.
The thought keeps crossing my mind that the reality of things is that parents only have a very short period to have their children to themselves before they go into the world and start their own lives.
Yes I get frustrated and annoyed but those times are the memories I will cherish.
You have really hit the nail on the head here @shanyn – I love this video because it is exactly how I feel. But then when my kids go to stay with my parents for a few days each school holiday I miss them terribly and the house is so quiet and still. They are a part of me and I can see they are growing up way too fast for my liking. I want to keep them small and close to me.
