Celebrating and Supporting Community: i4118 Afterschool Mentor, Lethabo Mbathile

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela

21 March, Human Rights Day in South Africa, is a day where we come together to proudly celebrate our right to equality, education, human dignity, culture and communities.

West Pack Lifestyle was alerted by its Twitter community of Lethabo Mbathile’s passionate cause to help more children with their right to education and be a positive role model in her community.

Lethabo, a Bcom graduate, joined non-profit organisation, i4118 Foundation, as a mentor for 3 young girls needing a positive role model. When she saw how her girls were battling with the volume of work being given to them, she saw a need for an after-school program to help children in her community with their homework.

Prominent Ncube, also a i4118 Mentor who assists Lethabo, explained their primary goal is to mentor young boys and girls to become good men and women who value positive family and community values.

Kids Mentor SowetoWest Pack Lifestyle offered to donate 15 Kiddies Tables and 30 Crazy Crafts boxes with educational crafts to Lethabo’s mentorship programme, giving her pupils a comfortable place to do their homework after school. West Pack Lifestyle CEO, Chris Jnr Da Silva said: “This small gesture is just one way that we can support Lethabo and the children who are guided by her mentorship. We are excited to see the tables being put to use for homework, studies and beyond in the years to come.”

Afterwards Lethabo showed before and after photos on Twitter where it had all started, and thanked Miss GQ, the Twitter user who had first alerted West Pack to Lethabo’s cause. “Before and After of my #HomeworkAfterCare. I would like to give thanks to @MimzMol for commenting in my post and to @westpackstores for donating tables and fun crafts. My kids & I really appreciate it. More doors opening and life changing opportunities for the kids.”
