Is CBD OK To Use While Breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, it can be wonderful but also overwhelming and stressful. You may be wondering if CBD is safe to use to ease this stress without compromising the health of your child.

Marijuana (THC) Is Not Safe

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the use of marijuana while breastfeeding is not recommended.

This is because it can harm the development of the baby’s brain. In addition, the active chemical in cannabis, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), has been known to linger in breast milk for at least 6 days.

Studies have indicated that THC can enter the baby’s bloodstream through the placenta and also affect the baby’s brain. However, there is not enough scientific evidence to make clear recommendations.

There are a lot of questions about how marijuana use during pregnancy and breastfeeding affect the baby. While researchers have compiled a good bit of data, there is still no clear answer.

A number of experts suggest that more research is necessary to determine what impacts marijuana use on the development of the baby.

Some medical professionals advise against using cannabis during pregnancy and breastfeeding, while others say it is safe as long as it is used in moderation. It’s better to err on the side of caution, though.

Luckily, there are many resources available to learn more about the health effects of cannabis on the unborn child. Many of the studies are case reports, which are limited in statistical significance.

The most important thing to remember is that any form of cannabinoids should be avoided by pregnant and nursing women.

What About CBD Without THC?

While breastfeeding, some babies may be exposed to trace amounts of CBD, but this isn’t considered a major concern by scientists.

Women who use cannabis products while nursing should consult their doctor.

Many of the studies on marijuana and breastfeeding have focused on THC, but the effects of cannabidiol are still unknown. Research is ongoing, and researchers hope to learn more about the impact of CBD on breastmilk soon.

If you’re a new mom, you might be dealing with sleepless nights, postpartum depression, and hormones that are out of whack. You might want to turn to CBD since it is touted as a natural remedy and less harmful than prescription medications.

For now though, it’s best to avoid using cannabidiol while breastfeeding. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend abstaining from marijuana and cannabis products during pregnancy and lactation.

You can find CBD in a variety of products including shampoo, lotion, gummies, and essential oils. Because they’re not regulated, you have to be cautious about what you’re getting. Some of these products may contain heavy metals or fungus that aren’t safe for your baby.

But while you might want to try CBD, you might not want to get sucked into the hype. The FDA is currently investigating the possibility of harmful effects of CBD on pregnant women.

And CBD in Topical Form?

CBD can be applied topically, in creams and lotions.

If you want to take some time for a self-care pampering session, CBD topicals can be a safe option for pregnant or breastfeeding moms.

This way, you get the relaxation benefits without harming your baby. It’s also a great skin moisturizer, so it can help prevent stretch marks.

Benefits of CBD for new moms – but only after weaning!

Studies have shown that CBD can help reduce anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and stress – all of which can affect new moms.

Anxiety is one of the most common ailments faced by new mothers. Postpartum anxiety is a common cause of sleep deprivation.

CBD can be used to alleviate anxiety, depression, and other medical conditions. For some people, it can be a convenient alternative to prescription medications. Many new mothers turn to CBD products to reduce their symptoms.

Some studies have shown that trace amounts of CBD may make their way into breast milk. It is recommended that breastfeeding moms avoid the use of CBD until the baby is weaned.

Although no comprehensive studies have been conducted on the effects of CBD on pregnant women, studies on the effects of animal breastmilk may provide helpful information. Several preliminary studies suggest that CBD may be safe for nursing mothers. But more research is needed to confirm these findings.

The best thing to do is to wait until your child is weaned before taking any oral CBD products for your stress. Experts recommend meditation as a natural method for coping with symptoms. Others believe that holistic methods such as yoga and talk therapy can be beneficial.

CBD Can Prolong The Postpartum Period

While there is no doubt that CBD can help relieve pain and stress, there are concerns about its safety. If you decide to try CBD after finishing breastfeeding, make sure you consult with your physician first. This is because it can interact with your body in a variety of ways.

The good news is that it is considered to be an alternative to prescription medications for some of the most common postpartum symptoms. It also is considered to have antioxidant properties.

It can help with your overall mood as well. You can use CBD to treat stress and insomnia.

CBD has no psychoactive properties, so it won’t affect your ability to care for your child responsibly, but you must take it in moderation to make sure of this.

Given the limited and conflicting research available on CBD and breastfeeding, it is difficult to provide a definitive answer as to whether or not it is safe for breastfeeding mothers.

Due to the potential risks associated with CBD, it is recommended that breastfeeding mothers avoid using the product until more conclusive research is available.

In the meantime, breastfeeding mothers should consult their healthcare provider or a lactation specialist if they have any questions regarding the use of CBD while breastfeeding.
