Best Lasagne Recipe Ever – Super Delish

I’m a huge fan of lasagne and I recently found the best lasagne recipe. While I love lasagne I have never been able to make a really good lasagne until now, so I’m super chuffed and have to share it with you.

  • 9 lasagne sheets
  • 4 cups grate mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan
  • 750g mince
  • 250g chorizo sausage (chopped up very finely)
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 800g marinara sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Italian herbs
  • 500g ricotta cheese
  • ½ cup parsley
  • 1 beaten egg

  • Add the lasagne sheets to a dish of hot water to soften them
  • Brown the onions, garlic, mince, and chorizo sausages
  • Stir in the marinara sauce, tomato paste, and Italian herbs and simmer for 5 minutes
  • Mix the ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley together
  • Layer your lasagne dish by adding a cup of meat sauce first, then 3 lasagne sheets, followed by the ricotta cheese mixture.
  • For the next layer add three lasagne sheets, ricotta cheese mxture, then meat sauce and repeat another layer like this
  • Add a layer of meat sauce and cover with foil, bake at 180ºC for 45 minutes
  • Remove the foil and add the grated mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese and bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Let your lasagne dish stand for about ten minutes before cutting and serving

For the marinara sauce you can make your own, but I’m not Mary Poppins so I used a jar of All Gold Meat Flavoured Spaghetti Sauce instead. This recipe will makes 8 very large portions and is great for freezing too.

This dish is rich and incredibly tasty, I’m going to try make it next with 1kg mince instead of a mix of mince and chorizo sausage to see how it comes out, simply because I had to go to 5 different shops before I found the chorizo sausage at the Spar in Langebaan.

This is definitely the best lasagne recipe I’ve ever made.

Ooh yummy Lynne! I love lasagne ???
I’m also crazy about mozarella cheese and chorizo, although they are a bit on the pricey side hey ?
I’m gonna try and make that marinara sauce myself haha.
Please do let us know how the mince with the 1kg of mince comes out?
Gonna try this recipe, have already downloade it although I’ve never seen ricotta cheese in stores, have never even tasted it!

    • Lynne Huysamen

You won’t find ricotta cheese in most stores, I had to go to Woolworths for it. I had to buy 2 of them and they were about R40 each so it was very costly. My sister in law told me that it is so easy to make your own ricotta with milk and lemon juice. She is going to show me how. And yes making your own marinara sauce will take the price down a lot. I am going to try using 1kg mince next and adding some bacon to make it rich instead of chorizo sausage. It was hard finding the chorizo and I don’t like going to multiple shops trying to find something.

  2. this recipe is yum, i love lasagna with beef mince it comes out yum, . Lynne any tips on how to prevent my lasagna sheets from sticking together

    • Lynne Huysamen

I put my sheets into a dish with hot water to soak while I prepared the rest of the meal…. and they stuck together a bit but I managed to pull them apart without breaking them. So no, I have not yet mastered this skill. I will ask my sister in law since she is a chef, she must know!

  3. Definitely gonna try this….. It looks yummy ?

  4. Im definitely going to try it and make for supper .i love a delicious meal and this is one of our faves but i never use these ingredients it so expensive but once in a while wont hurt and it looks so yummylicious thank you so much kids will definitely enjoy

    • Lynne Huysamen

I have to admit that this really did cost a bomb! I think sticking to only mince and not adding the chorizo will make a huge difference. Also my sister in law is a chef an she told me she can show me how to make my own ricotta cheese using only milk and lemon juice! The ricotta cost about R40 per tub from Woolworths, I couldn’t find it anywhere else, plus this recipe took 2 tubs so just the ricotta cost close on R80! I definitely want to play around to get the same rich, superb taste without the huge cost! Another thing I might try is doing half soy, lentils or beans, and half mince. That way its less meat and less cost.

  5. Thank you so much this is a definitely must try recipe it looks so yummy to the eye i know it will be fantastic to the taste buds
Soaking sheets in hot water is what I learnt to achieve soft evenly cooked sheets after one incident of putting the sheets straight from the box i never make a mistake of putting them dry
I love my lasagna dish with green salad and lots of spur pink sauce ???i just never get enough of this meal

    • Lynne Huysamen

Spur pink sauce is the best! We had to go without it for months after the KZN raiding and it was awful. Now its back on shelves again 🙂 You must try this recipe for sure Sandra – I’m just working on some ideas to modify it so that it is not so expensive to make, because this really did cost a bomb. My sister in law is going to show me how to make ricotta with milk and lemon juice!

      • I definitely have to try this. Have tried so many recipes and they just don’t come out the way I want them to

      • I’ve tried so many lasagne recipes over the years and none of them were right. This one is exactly what I was needing, I hope you love it too!

  6. Sabrina Watermeyer

I think u might be sorry if u leave out chorizo it has a lot of flavour adds to the richness. It is expensive but then its overall an expensive dish so celebration. Check checkers hyper they have all ingredients.
